Has anyone out there tried one of the Pony carbs Autolite 1100's? It's time for me to rebuild my Carter YF on the 66, but I'd really like to go back to my oil bath air cleaner. They seem pricey but are they worth it?
I have been tempted. But the 200 and 250 inline six guys all ditch their autolite 1101 carbs for a Carter YF cause they get better performance and equal or better mileage with the Carter.
I carefully rebuilt my Autolite 1101. Has a little leak, but runs nice. Gets much worse mileage than with the Carter YF that I got off ebay and just "stuck on" temporary like. I think I am going to go back to the Carter. The Carter ran just as good too, if not better.
But I do admit -- I am tempted when I have a little extra cash to have pony carbs rebuild the 1101 and see if they can do better.
Keep in mind that the 1101 must be correctly paired with a Loadomatic distributor too, if the carb has a spark control valve.
ok, that makes sense, but it leads to my other big question.....what is the loadamatic dist. and how do I know if I have one?? If I do, what makes it different than any other distributor??
Try a search for it, or better still is a good FAQ over at fordsix.com, in the "Small six" forum. I do not think the 300 ever had loadomatic distributor/carb setup. Only the 240 and only for a couple of years till the switched to the Carter YF. The 300 had an 1101 Autolite, but it did not have the spark control valve, and used the later dual advance (mechanical AND vacuum both) distributor.
