carter yf pouring out from under float bowl

I have a 1966 ford f350 with a 240, the carb was puking gas so i rebuilt it and it still pukes gas, wondering if its a float adjustment or what? any ideas would be appreciated. I also was wondering if anyone of a better carb to swap onto the 240 or if the yf is worth my time. guaranteedcarbs.com says for 178 they will rebuild with lifetime warranty anyone know of a better deal?

Where is it puking fuel? That may tell you what is wrong.

The YFA is about the best carb for that engine without spending alot of money converting to a 4 barrel intake.

looks like it is coming from under the float bowl, which i am guessing is coming out of the area where the rod that actuates the pump.

I replaced the manual pump with a new manual pump from autozone could this have to much fuel pressure and if so what is the fuel pressure supposed to be?

I belive anywhere between three and six psi is normal.
The actuation rod should be above the fuel level and usualy will only leak at unusual angles of attack. This to me suggests that you have an improper float hight. If it has been only a few months since you rebuilt it you could simply reset your float hight.

I agree, if gas is pouring out it is most likely that (1) the float height is incorrect, (2) you have a hole in your float and it is filling up with gas and sinking or (3) the float is mis aligned and dragging against something causing it to not rise fully enough to shut off the gas flow. I would pull it apart and check these 3 things. Also check the bushing around the throttle shaft, when the shaft area wears out it leaks fuel but it usually doesn't pour out, it's more of a drip. hope this helps!

You have a different carburetor and a different engine than me, but my carb was doing the same thing when i rebuilt it, only it shoot gas up and all over then engine.

the problem was that the float was not sealing off the fuel line from the pump like it was supposed to.

again, you have a different carb, but if its anything like mine then its just a matter of installing the little clip on the float properly. assuming its similar to mine, hook the half-rectangle shaped on onto the little notches on the pin that goes though the float and then install the one that connects to the brass check-valve sort of thing. then install it into the carb. the rectangular clip then clips onto the back of the brass check valve. there is a little groove on it that the wire goes into and you need to clip it on with a flat screw driver.

I sure hope this helps. i was super frustrated with it, then felt like an idiot once i figured it out. its probably something very simple, so be patient and work at it slowly.

1965/67's w/240/300 I-6's came with Ford (Auto-Lite) or Holley carbs.

The Carter YF wasn't used until 1968.

previous owners must have switched it from the autolite to a yf, which is better. Or what are the pros and cons of both.thanks for all the tips I will try them soon. It is defienetly pouring out and not a drip and it does not seem to be consistent so maybe its dragging the float or not sealing the intake of fuel, my carb did not have the little clip connecting the plunger to the float.
anyone know where to source a new autolite carb?
