I've read through all the stereo install threads, and I thought I'd seen this addressed before, but I can't find it.
I'm keeping the stock am radio in my 66, but I'd like to mount an amplifier and speakers separately under my seat to plug my XM radio and Ipod into. What would be my best bet for drawing power to this setup?
I have a few weeks to think about it, as the truck is going to the painters this week (Finally! - after 30 hours a week on it since May!)
I have a battery that has the top and side post set-up, we ran a wire, I think it was size #0 to the poss. side post using a gold fuse inline to the amps. Used a gold bolt on the batt. My son got the wire, gold bolts and fuse links at a stereo shop. Ran the same size of wire to the frame for a ground.

So did you then just use a separate switch so the amp didn't run all the time?
I'd prefer to have it tied to something so it won't run if the key is off.
What I may do, is similar to what I did on my motorcycle to run accessories. I added an auxiliary fuse block with a relay, so that it won't go hot until the starter is pushed. The new fuse block is run directly to the battery.
The amp will have a remote turn on wire (blue) so that it won't come on unless the key is on. The large guage wire that bertha66 is using is the main power wire to supply the amp. you won't need that large gauge wire unless you have a huge amp or a few big amps. I used to run 3 amps on 4 guage wire. But anyway back to turning the amp on, if you just tie the remote wire to the positive 12volts that turns the radio on when the key is on then the amp will only come on when the key is on. Thats it!
