Got the truck back Friday...after 3 weeks...."WE CAN FIND NOTHING WRONG"... They tried towing a trailer with it and it wouldn't overheat. Of course they were towing a little 2000# rig. The service writer did tell me they suspect the heads and are basically waiting to see if it gets worse. Since I only have 15K on this one, I don't really think that's too bad an idea. The tech told me the problem is a poorly designed head gasket. No fire rings in it. They did check the guage package and it was okay. I guess the next time, I'll just take my boat in with the truck and let the tech ride with me while it spikes the guage. The writer did ask if I had a chip or tuner in it, and told me almost everyone coming in with the coolant pukage had been chipped.
I've had what seems to be the same problem. At first it just spiked quickly and scared me to death. I pulled over to find my coolant all over my hood. I filled it, and 70 miles later it happened again. ( Keep in mind this is always while pulling my 8000lb toyhauler, you know the whole reason I bought this truck in the 1st place). From that point on, everytime I towed my toyhauler, it would do it at least once, even with the heat on full blast. The A/C would blow warm while it was doing this too. I tried to notice the symptoms, but it would do it going uphill, downhill, flat, 75mph+, 75mph-, plus 100 degrees, under 80, no rhyme or reason. The only thing I did notice was that it would start to sound like another fan was kicking in and revving higher than the motor. I finally took it in this week and they gave me the radiator cap story. I wanted new head gaskets, but they assured me that was it. I joined here when I first bought it and now wish I would have gotten on here more. Yes I have a Diablo on tow mode, but give me a break, everyone does. My mileage has gone down 3 miles to the gallon and before they replaced the cap I did notice that it blue/white smokes bad at first start up. Now it doesn't smoke like that at all, is that really possible by just replacing the cap?

Funny how everyone see's different stuff- on my 05, I have the Diablo and have ran all 3 modes without a single problem - and the funny thing is even in 100HP mode, I still blow now smoke or coolant and I've gotton on it..even towed a small trailer full of junk (about 3500 lbs)...
