I noticed today I'm losing coolant. Not much, but I had to add almost a 1/2 gallon today. I changed the coolant a few months back and have had no problems.
Oil looks fine. No coolant leaks to be found. No new smells anywhere. The area around the outside of the cap on the bottle looks like it has dried coolant on it, but I don't think I'd lose 1/2 gallon through there.
Double check around your water pump area. Alot of times if these engines are losing coolant, it is because the water pumps are wheeping and losing a little coolant at a time. When they start wheeping, it is time to change the water pump out
having the same coolant loss. once had coolant up the side of the car and has some dried coolant around cap. just put new cap on will let you know how it turns out. Also thinking the termostat may be closing too quickly as i have seen coolant around cap a couple of times after i have stopped. also tested coolant for exhaust gases with negative result
definately check the weep hole, you won't actually be able to see it because it's behind the pulley, but you'll see moisture. The other common failure points are the t-stat housing gasket and the inlet pipe o-ring. The inlet pipe o-ring can sometimes be very slow and hard to spot, but look for staining on the lower hose.
a few months back I noticed I had started to use fluid, but never noticed a leak. I wasn't overly concerned because it was very minimal. Then one day......I parked in front of a store and saw a very steady leak coming out of the water pump. Turns out my weep hole had been leaking the whole time, and just finally got worse. I never noticed the leak at all. My guess is this is the culprit, but.....a new cap is cheaper then a new water pump! Try that first lol
