Have a '79 F-250 SuperCab and used it to pull a 28' Gooseneck with about 12k in hay on it all the time. It has a 460 with a C-6, Dana 60 rearend with 3.73 gears/ open diff.
Other than using a lot of gas, it does just fine.
This may be true, it's not legal. So, in order to make it legal, the truck must be improved then recertified. DOT won't recertify a stock truck to haul more weight than the manufacturer listed it at. I have a recertified truck. It's a '79 F-350 DRW recertified to 15,000lbs GVWR

I never said it was "legal". If it helps, I can always say I didn't know any better since when they did my title, they made it as 15,000 GVWR for some reason.. I don't know how or why that happened that way.. The truck is stock.
We generally are only hauling that kind of load right around the north side of town. Mostly 10miles from A to B.
The F-250's especially the ones with the full floating dana 60 are pretty darn strong. I have a wonderful 78 f250 4x4 that has pulled 12,000 (plus) pounds very often. This part is a little sick looking back, while hauling 12000 pounds on several occasions I have about 3000 pounds of tile in the back. I never had any trouble with doing any of this. The trailer had good brakes, a had an EQ hitch, and the truck had air bags. Also, the truck is in good shape. In fact, the prior owner used to pull his 36 foot 5th wheel with it all the time.

Hehehe, we do the same thing. But only for a half mile on the road. We hook a 3/4 ton Chev to a 34' gooseneck and haul 14-16 6x5's. Fortunately the sherriff doesn't come around. Not sure if he would say much anyway's, we own all the land in the area except for one small 80 acre farm. The road pretty much goes through our farm.
Don't let it bother you. The key to being perfect is to make perfectly human mistakes, when you make silly mistakes you become perfectly human. As any selfmade successful person can tell you " it only took 5000 mistakes to get the program right".
There was a thread on Pirate4x4 8 years ago or so from a guy that flipped an overloaded toy hauler and killed others. The insurance paid to its max and left him with a million dollar plus judgement that he could start paying when he got out of prison for the criminal part.
