I think I have a virus of some kind. The computer sometimes will not start up and will only get to the hyphen prompt. A friend thinks I have a trojan or worm but I am unable to find anything with msn spyware, norton and ad-ware SE. I have updated each of them weekly but no help. This computer runs slow and I need to find out whats up. Thanks for any advice and help any of you may have.
F2504x4: Yes I did that F8 once when all I was able to do was start it up in safe mode. It ran well ro two weeks and now I am back where I started and am worried that it is getting worse again. I think that I am going to shut down this computer for awhile and use my laptop to communicate for awhile until I get this straightened out. What do you mean by your second post with the quote "Delete the entire content of your C:\Windows\Prefetch folder."? Where did that quote come from?
two weeks ago it would get past the blue screen prompt (-) which I have been getting past by using ctrl-alt-delete to get past. So I got into safe mode and ran the virus programs but they didnt find anything big.
There's something going on there. One thing- not that it helps you- if you think you've got a virus in the machine, don't shut it down or reboot. That usually makes everything worse. Call me tomorrow and we'll see if we can get it straigthened out.
