I am trying to reinstall my printer on my computer. windows xp operating system. when I put the installation cd in to install it,I get a pop-up box. It says 16 bit windows subsytem C:\winnt\system32\autoexec.nt. the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose "close to terminate the application. what do i need to do to correct this? I am not that computer savvy,so put it in simple terms please this printer has worked on this computer before,I am not sure why I can't install it right now. thanks for the help!!
ok,I downloaded a driver that is xp compatable. Now when I go to add printer,I get a pop up that says printer spooler service not running. what is that and how do I start it up? thanks
lexmark z12. there is no printer icon on the task bar. where else would i find it? the lexmark z12 was installed, but i uninstalled it because the computer was having problems communicating with the printer. I put the install cd in to reinstall the printer, and that is when i had the problem i started that caused me to start this thread.
With the cd in the machine click on the my computer icon, either on your desktop screen or in the start menu. Once in the my computer folder right click on the icon for your cd rom drive, select "explore" from the list.
That should bring up a window with all the files on your printers cd, look around for files or folders named installer.
It sounds like your have the same problem I had with a old epson printer, after I reinstalled XP on my machine. There is probably a XP installer on the cd but its trying to load the wrong one.

Goto Control Panel
Select Administrative tools
Select Services
Select the Print Spooler service then you can stop or start the service
