Gas Price Rant Thread
Gas Price Rant Thread
Had enough? I have. When I see on CNN that the oil companies are making 30% to 50% more in profits and that there are families headed for financial hardship because of this greed, it turns my stomach. Where I live in San Diego, it averages $2.75 a gallon. The Prez and Gov don't care at all and are in fact rewarding the oil companies with tax breaks. I'm gonna start riding my motorcycle from now on. Something needs to be done!

The president and CEO of Exxon/Mobil announced that he will retire soon.
he will get a one time payment of ONE HALF BILLION DOLLARS, 500 million dollars for his retirement as well as 4 million a year for the rest of his life, along with the use of the company jet any time he wants.
now tell me with the price of oil where it is, and the companies making record profits AND having enough to pay a guy on the way out half a billion, why did this thread not start until now. this is pure and simple RAPE of the public yet like sheep we just keep on paying the prices. Speak up to your congressmen and senators, let them know you are not happy.
I spoke with the local congressmans office here in texas and they said that they had received very few complaints or concerns,as long as they are not getting complaints they will not act. There are many controls that can be enacted, such a roll back of the federal excise tax, price gouging investigations and indicments against the big oil guys if the investigations prove fruitful.
CALL YOUR SENATOR AND CONGRESSMAN AND DEMAND AN INVESTIGATION OF THIS PRICE GOUGING.

In my humble opinion, I think we are all at fault here.....How are the oil companies any more guilty of this than Microsoft and Bill Gates??? Supply and Demand guys....thats the core of American Capitalism.
think bout it.....Bill Gates and Microsoft "dominate" the PC operating system market with 99% market share....couple weeks ago he sold 12mil shares worth almost 400 mill bucks.
look at real state, prices have soared in almost every area....who is complaning there?
I am not saying this is right or wrong...but "we" consumers control this, by supply and demand. I am suffering from this myself spending over $200 a month on gas for my Expy....not cool.
My plan? try to drive less or like someone said, get a cheaper vehicle more gas friendly. If we were all to cut even slightly it would make such an impact that gas prices would come tumbling down in a heartbeat....I can guarantee u that!!!!

take the bus!!! public transportation is horrible in this country....
come on guys, you can keep ranting about why it should be cheaper and the goverment will rant about easing comsuption...is a game, one we wont win unless we reduce demand...am on your side here, but bitchin to goverment wont do a dam thing

Gas isn't high b'c of oil company CEO's, or some conspiracy thought up by Bush. Gas prices are high b'c of 1 reason.....We haven't built a new re-finary in this country since the late 70's. THe demand for gas since then has grown expontially, but there is now a shortage of refined gas which needs to go to the consumer, b'c of the lack of refinaries. If we had more refinaries, gas would be lower. ITs as simple as that. SO, if you want to blame soomeone, blame those "certain" senators and party members what are against building them....
Last time i checked, both Bush and the oil companies wanted to build more, while the party of NO, does just that.

I will agree with Xmen with one exception. Oil companies want to cry that enviromental regulations make it cost prohibitive to build new refineries. So, we are back to the arguement that it could be a conspiracy by the oil companies or the govt. Mind you I am a moderate republican, but someone has got the cookie jar (not their hands in it, the whole damn thing). the irony is, you can drive down the road and see a range of 30 cents a gallon in a 5 mile stretch. So are the low guys selling at a loss, or are the high guys making that much more????????????

The CEO of 7-11 was just on TV "glowing" about the high profits and the dramatic turn around his company has made, One thing he said that really makes sence is that they were able to Raise prices at the pump rapidly when there was a raise in crude prices. It will take 3-4 months before the crude that is now 67.00 a barrell( 42 gallons) to make it through the refinerys and to the pumps, the gas stations raise as soon as crude goes up and are very slow to lower when crude goes down. This latest round of price increases( gouging) are just the traders and futures dealers jacking up crude prices like they did in California during their electric crisis, I believe that Enron had a lot to do with that goat-roap just as the big oil companies do with the gas prices today. I am a texan and I do not believe all the liberals that say Bush is to blame, the man has done nothing to even suggest he is at the center of this gas fiasco, Michael Moore will be making one of his idiotic "documentries" soon blaming bush again.
If this increase is tied to refineries capacity what has triggered the 30 cent increase this week? have we started using that much more? I don't believe that refinery capacity has anything to do with it at all. greed is more like it, bring on the Hydrogen powered cars and watch the oil companies squirm...
Dallas Texas, $2.65 gal reg unleaded

I don't think supply and demand is the major factor in this. True, there aren't many refineries cracking extra gas. The key point is the horrendous profits the oil companies are making. It's obscene when you consider that people need fuel for transportation. Everybody is paying even if you don't need to drive. Expensive fuel costs are passed on to consumers so that businesses can stay in business. There is no competition to lower the price. Lowering federal taxes won't fix the problem, either. There need to be some laws made to limit price gouging and there are none so the oil companies say let's jack the prices to the moon.
Supply and demand has nothing to do with it. When you drive pass gas stations, tell me, are there cars lined up all over to get gas? Is the gas station limiting how much gas one can purchase? Nope, they aren't, because the gas is there.
They also keep mentioning that consumption is up substantially over last years figures. Is that so? then where can I find the actual numbers on this, and why aren't they ever stated?
What angers me most is when they constantly speak of oil prices rising because of the hurricanes. Give me a break.

Its ironic that oil/fuel is the only commodity that can change their prices on a daily if not hourly basis. I would not suggest calling your representative. Our own rep started a investigation a few years ago promising answers and changes. Well guess what? He mysteriously became quiet and the whole thing blew over AGAIN as it has over and over. They have to dang much money and we all know that it takes money to make money which of course is followed up with it takes money to defend money. Also with an oil State President in office, do you really think that things are going to get any better. I would think not. I am trying to find work closer to home so I can ride my mountain bike to work and afford to feed and clothe my family!
