I hear ya, I just think it is pretty sad that we have more than enough resources in our own counrty as far as crude goes to make more than enough fuel and not have to import it from other countries......I think we need a new player in the gas industry to give these other guys a run for there money and start building new refineries here at home but the odds of that happening are slim......anyone have 5-10 billion to get started???

1.80 a gallon would be nice. I'd think its a dream to drive past a gas station and its 1.80.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Their plan seems to be working as that is what they want people to think everyday.This way they can keep raising it little by little.
That sounds like their plan mil1on, bump prices way up there so eventually 2.49 a gallon seems low! hell, 2.30 right now is pretty cheap.
This is a good thread. I wasn't alive during the gas crunch of the 70's, but I'm pretty sure that "shortage" was bogus. They had oil tankers sitting off shore waiting to unload, but were not allowed. I believe that they (the gov.) and the oil companies should make public their costs and profits. Afterall, the AMERICAN PEOPLE ARE the goverment, and corporations are not private. They give up privacy by the very nature of being a public utility. I think if Americans knew the true story, a lot more would be involved (an angrier) in this whole mess. Unfortunately, most will never know the entire scope of this. Politics and large corporations have lawyers, spin doctors, the media, to keep them from having to answer for themselves. I better quit, sorry.
In Canada, Taxes make up 38% of the price of gasoline.
Yea its working pretty good! I need to get a diesel and make my own fuel, or run farm fuel. The governments cheating me I'll cheat'em back! hell with a diesel you can get a chip and put it on "60 h.p. mode" and get a few more mpg's, thats what im talkin about. (you'll see me driving a 4 banger focus in a little while )
People forget. I knew when prices went to two bucks the first time, people would be calling $1.75 "cheap" when it fell. Jump to $2, fall to $1.75. Jump to $2.25, fall to $2.00. Jumps to $2.50 this time and mark my words, it will fall back the $2.25...and people will be happy. See a trend? Up 50 cents, down 25. Maybe the numbers are different in your part of the country, but I bet you can find similar trends. We are trained animals.
I was digging through a box the other day and found a couple gas receipts from Nov, 2001 and January, 2002. Wanna take a stab at what I was paying for 87 octane?
I tend to think that the prices of fuel here are a little out of our hands. To me, this seems that there's more than just basic supply and demand here.
There are soooo many fees and taxes. And then there's the inability to explore for domestic oil.
This just seems over regulated. It happened with PG&E here in CA a few years back..and when they were partially deregulated, the prices went way up, with rolling blackouts to follow.
People blamed it on corporate greed, but again..they are unable to build more modern power plants, but that part was not deregulated. When the partial de regulation took place, it stopped various outta town deals with other power companies and PG&E couldnt keep up it's proper production.
Now I'll go read more than the first page of this thread and see that someone else has already said the same thing.
I don't see anything to be sorry for. It's the doggone truth of the matter.
