The headlight chime is not working on our 93 Aerostar, and we've left the lights on several times, draining the battery. The wiring diagram in my Haynes manual is almost useless. Does anyone know where I could get hold of a wiring diagram that shows which wires to trace to get the chime back on?
First I would go over to e-bay and watch for '93 Factory Aero/Ranger Body/Chassis and Engine/Drivetrain manuals. They are priceless when you are working on your rig. I picked up a set for my '97 for $19 shipped. Then I would pick up a '93 EVTM manual (make sure it is for the Aerostar, they make one for the Ranger seperately and the two don't match) I picked one up for mine for $13 shipped. So for $32 I can do anything to my Aerostar that the dealer can.
Now to your question, according to my '97 evtm, it states that a hot at all times runs from the fuse pannel (Tan/white) to the main light switch. Then when on (park or main lights) power should be running through the brown wire heading to the warning chime module, and then to ground.
Does the chime work when you leave the keys in the ignition? If so I think that it might be your headlight switch. They have a problem with melting the connector due to the amount of current going through the switch.
Yeah! Me
I have one I think it's it anyhow, it was located on the top side of the dash and it's black, the one on my 95 is under the steering colum and is a white colour. But the black one was just as anoying and probably the same, It's yours if you want it.
Didin't read the post properly, however I have the switch if you need that as well as the module, offers still there.
Thanks. It quit dinging a while back. I had to replace the light switch, and found the meltdown on the socket, but was able to pry the connectors back tight and have the lights working again.
The only ding the chime is giving me is the one that says the key is in the ignition switch. Once I turn the engine on, all chiming stops, and does not resume when the engine is turned off. It should chime if the key is in the lock after a run cycle, but doesn't, and no chime with headlights on, engine off, key in lock.
I'll get the voltmeter out there this weekend and see if the brown wire is hot with the lights on.
Thanks. Over on ebay, I found two cd manuals. Both claim to be Ford repair manuals. One is 6.95, the other 17.95. Do you happen to know anything about either one?
I personally like have paper manuals. It allows you to sift through things and when you are working on your back, your manual can be sitting right next to you, no getting the keyboard dirty.
But if you want to get a CD, you can download them here. http://www.jonheese.com/fordcds/
Also when you buy the CDs off of e-bay, they are pirated copies and do not always work, and you have no recoarse really.
