What year is the truck? I've seen the filter bowl crack on a couple of OBS trucks.

My first guess would be the o-rings on the fuel drain, but the drain is on the back side of the filter housing.

Possible cause is fuel pump. There are 2 weep holes on the bottom of the pickup pump. The pump is a diaphragm type and when the diaphragm fails it will leak fuel out of the weep holes.

Don't let the fact that it's a diesel scare you off. They are not much different than a gasser. Just heavier duty and a different way of igniting the fuel. A fuel leak is a fuel leak. Just find the source.

thanks for the info. the truck is a 95 f-250. i was told possibly the o rings, and that the system was under 100 psi. it leaks at about 4-5 gpm rate roughly guessing. it appears to leak from the back of the pressure regulator/high pressure oil resevoir area, spraying toward the back of the engine on top of the intake area.

That eliminates the filter bowl as a source. On your (all pre 99 PSD) truck fuel is drawn from the tank and circulated through the filter by the low pressure side of the pump. Once filtered it travels back to the high pressure side. A leak as large as you describe has to be at the pump, regulator, heads, or any of the lines in between.
