I’m having issues getting diesel fuel to stop seeping around the lid on my filter. I’m wondering if it would be possible for the pressure regulator to be failing and the bowl pressure is getting too high and the gasket leaks. Could the fuel pump generate enough pressure to cause that?
I doubt this is happening. Are you sure the gasket/Oring is installed correctly? It can be installed upside down. Another way is to check your fuel pressure with a gauge. They are dog cheap at any farm supply store and good to have.
I put a new filter on and it has a redesigned gasket...flat not beveled. It seemed like a better idea but it seeps just a small amount around the gasket. I used a filter wrench and gave it a turn but I don’t think any tighter will gain me much. I’ll just get some miles out of the filter and go back to the old style. If I run my finger around the lid I get a small amount of fuel on my finger. From what I’ve read about leaking o-rings on the drain I figure I’m safe with just a wet residue. No fuel pooling on the top of the engine etc.
I believe that the fuel pressure would only drop over time, if something was wrong with the regulator. It's just a ball and a spring. Over time that spring can get weaker and thus hold less pressure in the system, thats why most people shim it up.
