2002 PSD with R4100. In June my truck started to miss a beat while driving around 30-40 mph, only happened once or twice then lately(within the last few weeks) it starts doing it again, normal driving truck just kinda shudders for a sec, engine stays on. Now recently the engine is starting to shut off for maybe 1/2 to one second while driving and just today while idleing as I was unloading the bed.36K 3 year expires aug 18 of this month, truck goes in wednesday,is 25k unheard of for CPS??
No. I have a friend with a 2002 F250 and his CPS went at 23k miles. Mine went at 93k miles. I now carry a spare in the tool box. From everything I have seen they are really unpredictable.
"Waltdog", mine was replaced at 33,495 miles. We should consider ourselves lucky in a way, because a good many of the people here will tell you that they were left sitting along the road when their cam sensor went out. Like "fedextech" said, getting a spare to carry with you is a good idea.
Thanks guys! Got the truck back today,CPS it was. While I was there I mentioned the steering wheel shakes quite a bit when going over bumps so next week i bring it back for all new ball joints/tie rod ends and steering stabilizer. SO I am quite lucky I was able to drive the truck in and also get a new front end out of the deal
9 months ago we were towed into the dealership when the truck simply shut-down and wouldn't restart. We were doing about 30-35 in light traffic at the time. The dealer didn't run a diagnostic test and arbitrarily decided it was the CPS. The truck had 22k on it at the time and was still under warranty.
About 2 weeks ago it shut-down big time in interstate traffic at about 56-58 mph and towing a large 5th-wheel camper. We were lucky to get to the side of the road safely. This time the truck restarted and we went on our way, anxiously holding our breath every time we hit a bump in the road. We got home safely but had several more shut-downs waiting for our appointment at the same dealership. Now the truck has 28k and it's out of warranty unless the CPS is identified as the culprit. This time they had me pull my Banks Stinger-plus chip and ran a diagnostic which showed nothing. They now want me to run the truck for a couple of weeks w/o the chip. Their tacit implication is that the problem is with the chip.
Banks told me to gently clean the contacts on the ECU with a 3M miracle cloth, spray the contacts on the ECU and the chip with contact cleaner (available at Radio Shack), reinstall and then tape in place. The difference running with the chip is like night and day. Running with the chip it performs like it's on steroids. I hope this works; however, after all I read here online, I plan on getting a back-up CPS, just in case.

I'm on my third one at 39,000 rounds. Luck of the draw on CPS. There is no rhyme or reason it seems. And don't leave home without a spare, 10mm socket and a ratchet. I did and I was real real sorry.
