Yeah G, I have a friend that lives up the road from me...that does 60 and 70 ford restoration's..and you can pick his brain all day long...But I tell ya what..If you ask if he's got a part you might need...He ack like you called his wife a *****!!!
He's a good guy..but all his part's he thinks are GOLD!! I should him my CJ....and he wanted to buy it..I told him it was gold!! LOL!! he offered me 2 standard block..at what bore? I dont remember? But the catch is..the last time I asked him if he had any 428 blocks he said NO!! Period!! Funny how he happened to find 2 in a month?? HUH??
Yea man don't let that CJ block go anywhere! That's a keeper. Sounds like your bud had an eye on that one LOL. He knew it's killer block and pulled out the exclusive bargan chips. That's funny! G.
Well G, I'am looking at some pretty good number's..Here..I couldnt resist playing with the Sim...
I dont know if the motor will make those #s ? but I'll have fun trying..and with a carb change ..it looks really good!! ?? LOL.. I now some of the Guys dont like my sims..But for some damn reason they always ask for me to run there Combo's?? LOL..
Give me your email and I'll send ya a Chart on the 431....
Do you know what they get for service blocks now?? Like $2K !!!! And that's 428 stuff, not 427! Carl had a large selection of them, but has sold most all. I think he kept a couple for himself...but I don't have the money to keep any spares.

Damn Larry!!
Well I have one standard bore 428CJ now....and a .060" over Sevice block for back up after the CJ blows?? LOL.. they service block, is dated July 11,1966... the CJ was cast on my Dads B-day Feb-5th.69 and the service block dated July 11, 1966 is my Daughter B-Day...not the years for them both but month and day?? I hope its a good omen!!! LOL..
Larry I wanted to ask you what CFM are you running on the race car... In order to keep the Intake pressure down to 1.0hg or below...the motor want a 1050cfm carb on it...Not that it will use all that, because it wont,,but the new carbs with the down leg annulars go off the intake signal..So it will only use what it needs...I guess it must drop because of the larger primary and secondary throttle bores??
I bought one of those 428 service blocks from Carl years ago. There was a large bunch of them found in Canada which these were as the story went. Came in the original Ford box even with a C6AZ-6010-F part number. Last time I checked they were $2250 from Carl a year or so ago. Yikes! G.
My service block is a '73(I thought?) that I run in race car. I swear the tag was D3....
As for carbs on race motor...Two 600 Holleys. Nothing fancy, light sec. springs, jetted up a few, bigger accel squirters and I think they have 50 cc pumps too. I made my own balance tube between the sec. diaphrams...glued a piece of 1/8" copper tube into hole drilled in side of housing(on top half).
As for consistency...with running vacuum sec. carbs.............well, yu'all have seen what I posted before. It can run back to back with no problems. With all the 1/2 arsed things about my car...it shouldn't. It all balances out in the wash though!
Russ, I ran my last 406 block at 05 over. It was 3/4 filled though. With the monster radiator I run, going round-robin was never an issue. Heck, bring it up sometime...I'll give you $50 for it...

Headers on the race car are 2"(?) aftermarket(made for Crites). They are a decent built pieces. I've only had to weld one tube/flange, and that's cause the front two tubes run around front of crossmember and then back. With all that weight bounc'n around they tend to vibrate a bit and crack. It's been near 10 yrs running and they are still in pretty sound shape.
Larry I dont think Crites would have headers for my truck ?? I need at least 2" I'd like to get 2 1/8" to really help it breath..I think Larry with this build ..I'll have the port work Maxed Out .....Hmmmmm.....
