RapidRuss,
back in March I purchased a 71 CS for $50 that had a 428 with a broken rod. It had the same 66-427, cast C and main webs as yours. The rod broke the lower pan rail as well main webs, sorry had to junk the block. It had the tight clearance in the water jackets, 13/32" rod bolts. Best part I got a spare C-6, driveline, rear, disc brakes all for $50. Just before it failed the owner was pissed as it failed smog. Rod broke 1 1/2" above the big end.

Well Carl you still got a smokin deal..*****... I think the block will work well..Its just weird I have never seen one with the 66-427 on it???

maybe it would go 4.230" ?? I dont know..But once I get back in the swing of things from having out of town family in for the Last 3 mos.. I'll have it sonic tested..and it it will safely go 4.230" with a couple small over bore?? I might just go the 427 route?? Well except the 3.980 crank...

I really dont know Carl...I havent decidided what I'll do with it..But as of now..everthing I have for the original 416 build will go in it..Except the pistons of course..and maybe a Cam upgrade?? I havent got that far yet... LOL.. Oh Me..

Russ

Russ,
the front driveshaft on the 68 CS was 2" diameter, within a week the 414" twisted it 1/16" behind the welds both ends, spline end after pillow bearing had 5/8" wobble, joints 7 degrees twisted out of syncThe 71 had a 3" front shaft, spline like new so added new joints and installed. Up on stands running up with no vibrations, got lucky. I got spare everything but motor. The wife gets pissed if she finds puter prints with the numbers 482", why? $$$$$$$$$$$ Ya got all the parts for your build, get going and post real dyno numbers, i'm jealous therefore i'm drinking.

Russ, this block needs a SCAT stroker crank, roller cam the new blue thunder heads and intake etc etc. with that you'll need custom pistons anyway, so just bore it as far as it needs.

I can help you spend your grandkids inheritance. They don't need it!

Some thoughts!
you old timers, ok older than me, are good for a good laugh with some of your comments. Now as for the block, I think russ should bore it to 4.23 and sell it as a standard, usable 427 block. Just find a way to make the cylinder walls look used? or have it cleaned well and call it NOS. there's money to be made there uh? Now if you are going to use it I don't recommend try to make a 427 spec engine. Just keep the overboring to a minimum to fit some decent size valves in there.

No greg! He doesn't need a blue thunder intake, he needs a bds blower for his new FE so he can show his grandchildren and their import tuners what some real ****ing muscle is about! He he can teach them some history lessons about "dinosaurs" while they are choking on tire smoke and gasoline fumes.

Sorry Russ, I couldn't help myself. I think we are aware you or anybody wouldn't do that to your/their grandkids.

I get tired of people raggin on the old FE's for being boat anchor's and all that crap and smallblocks being gods gift!

Ah, I got you to surface again, my body is 52 (feels like 82) brain thinks like 24 but the growing gray hair (better than bald) makes me act my age, split the difference a young 36 with a heavy right foot? Dad at 80 still knew what full throttle was on his motorcycle a 500 thumper.

Well said. You've got 10 years on me but I was raised the same way. My dad always said that a "good deal" was one where both parties went away satisfied. You certainly tried to not get screwed, but you didn't try to screw the other guy either.

Well 9B5 is 1969/Feb/5th. Do you mean there is a 2 below the date code? Or the 9 was cast directly ontop of the 2? I've seen numbers above and below the date code. Not sure what they mean either LOL. But if the 9 was cast ontop of the 2 maybe a newbie at the foundry made a boo-boo lol. Also see if there is a partial vin on the block. Maybe we can tell what it came out of by the engine code. R or Q would be my guess.....G.

Well I couldnt find a partial VIN # anywhere ? But I have a pic in my gallery showing where it seems to me, there was a 2 in the cast and a 9 was put on over it as a cast also..you can still see the bottom half of the 2 in the pic..

Tell me what you guys see...and for some reason the Block Main web pic doesnt show in the gallery..but in ya click on it..It will bring up the pic ?? Weird !!
