Russ that is weird. They appear to be two dots underneath the 9. This is strange cause that denotes a 70's block but has a 69 date code. Must be a fluke of some kind. Hard to really tell if they are dots or the bottom of a 2. Maybe a closeup shot will show me better. Anyhoo nothin to lose sleep over. G.
hey one other thing....is there a DIF or MCC logo on the block? and were you able to see the 428 insdie the freeze plug? ok that's two things not one lol. G.
Wow Russ, got yourself a real nice piece sitting there..............if anyone could actually figure out what it is...LOL!! No matter.....it will work!
If you want to "borrow' my blower manifold/stuff it's sitting on the bench right now. I pulled the blower motor out of galaxie to finally fix the oil pan leak. Be puttin' it back together the next week or so.
Get a Scat crank. Most bang for the buck. If you buy a used CJ for $500...it's 35yr old cast. Might as well spend the $750 and get a NEW cast crank! I was really impressed with mine, looked like a quality piece and the sizes were pretty right on.
Oh, as for PICKING up the blower............if you can....
Gawd that thing is HEAVY .
I did have it sitting on my kitchen table for 5 months while I was building motor though....my buddies gave me all kinds of crap for it. "My wife would shoot me if I did that". LOL!!! It was my dose of happiness every day while I was waiting...........
Well, I have a 3.980" crank allready.... That I just had turned 10/10 and micro polished..So I cant really Justify...$700 for a stroker and then have to buy new rods and custom pistons...Remember Larry, this is supposed to be a budget build!! LMAO!!
It must be a number fluke being the 9 was cast over it. Maybe someone in the foundry had a little too much fun the night before? Who knows. Some strange stuff has been found. Maybe...just maybe it was the same guy who set my old 406 block with 427 cores on one side and 406 cores on the other. LOL
Anyway with the C on the back it's for sure a CJ block.
OK, Found what the Motor came out of !! The guy I bought it from He and his Dad have been Racing Old Stangs for years and his Dads friend..
They all went to 460" + in Fox bodied cars, and this block came in a 69 Mustang with the Drag pack!! The car was bought new buy Jimmy my friends Dad...And the other block I bought is a .060" standard 428 service block... If I dont sell it..Ill keep it just for the main cap's...
I think at .060 over it might run warm on the street..I guess depending on where you live?
Anyway..thats the story behind my new to me block....well one of them anyway!! LMAO!! Oh ME..does it ever end!! LOL...

Russ thats pretty cool you tracked down what it came out of. SCJ Stang... you did well my friend!! That service block might be a keeper even at .060. As these blocks diminish there will be even more demand that there is now. After all no one is recasting 428 blocks....yet. I'd hang on to it until you at least have a chance to check it out. G.
Well your right there G, Both engine's were running years ago upon tear down, the Service block was in a 4 wheel drive Ford..and the owner took it out cuase it would run warm in the summer... So he pulled the motor , and sold the parts of it and then sold the truck rolling..
So really he doeant even know if it was the .060 over plus the weight of the truck making it run warm or not.... The friend that sold these to me sold me the Service block just for what he thought the main caps were worth... $50...LOL...Cause I'am a nice guy!! Well so is he for that matter... A wealth of knowledge between he and his Dad!!
$50!!!!! I need to meet some of your friends. Those sound like great people to know. My grandfather was like that. He was the one who turned me on to the FE's long ago. He drove Fords all his life starting with a new Model T. Wish he was still here to pick his brain. Guys restoring Model T's and A's used him often. He knew every part, nut and bolt like the back of his hand. I still have some of his old parts from various cars and for the most part no idea what the heck they are LOL.
