When i turn my key on in the morning, usually i here a 2 sec buzz. But every now and then, like this morning, there is another noise, sounds like a motor of some kind running, it comes on and stays on even after the buzzing stops and the glow plug light goes out. Is this the vacuum pump? Is this normal? Why doesnt it do it every time you turn the key on in the morning?
I only waited for about 7 seconds, and then started it up, and it was on then. Im not even sure if its the vacuum pump thats on. Something started running though.
Oh I didn't know the truck was new. It could be that a hose fell off or something. If it won't shut off I would take it to the dealer and make them fix it.
i just mean sometimes it runs in the morning, sometimes it is only for a few seconds. Im a NEW diesel owner, so i have no idea what noises are 'normal' and what noises are what.
The vacuum pump will run at times.. Especially with A/C/heat vent demands.. It is mounted on the right/passenger 'inner fender' well.. With just the key in the 'ON' position, cycle the heater/A/C controls 'back and forth' to use up the stored vacuum in the vac. res... The Vac. pump should run for 10 seconds or so, but times can/will vary.. The vacuum pump looks like a large 'slot car' motor with hose connections and omits a noticeable hum especially with the key on/engine off..
You'll hear a few noises on a start..
The fuel pump running, the ABS controller will 'grunt' when the key is cycled on and 'NO' brakes applied, and the vacuum pump hum..
