Hi all, I recently bought a 1965 F100, its a three in the tree. The metal sleeve/cover section of the steering column has a big split in it. It is the section of the column that houses the shifter, so because of the crack, the shift is very loose. I need to find this replacement part, but cannot seem to find it anywhere! Does anyone know where to find it?
are you talking about the part that the shifter sits in?? If so, I have seen these on ebay as well...my guess is its prolly a pretty easy part to find NOS as my guess is the 3 on tree columns are like the stepside beds....used forever with minimal if any changes....if it is that part I mentioned above, let us know and someone here can prolly check part locater for it...
Those have been helpful suggestions so far. Ebay does have some steering column covers, but not for a '65 Ford truck at this time. Dennis Carpenter also has tonnes of steering parts, but without a picture or full description, it is difficult for me to know if the part I am potentially ordering is the correct one.
In specific, the part I am talking about is the part that actually rotates when you shift. It is like some sort of collar/sleeve that surrounds both the steering column and from which the shifting handle sticks out of. It rotates around the column.
As this is my first classic car, I have a lot to learn!!
Well I call it a shift collar. These are the same for all 3 on the tree vehicles from the 60's through the 70's and were used on all Ford Motor Company products. Most of these on trucks are used up! I think you would be best off if you bought a new one from Dennis Carpenter. IMHO!
hi there, 65 I thought i had one of these out in the garage and i went out and looked and it was where i thought it was, that does'nt happen to offen. anyway if you send me your email i'll send a picture of it to make sure its right. if its right i'll let you have it just for shipping money.
Ok 66, I guess the website won't allow me to post my email, probably better that way anyhow. I have a couple pictures of the column cover in my truck, so Im gonna attempt to upload it to the site right now.
