Well that's a new one on me...not only the product, but I've never seen a block fail that way. I would imagine it's not a terribly common failure. I ran a stock 302 block in 1/4 mile circle track racing, hitting 7200 RPM by the end of every straight and the worst breakage I ever saw was the #2 main cap cracked in half. I only found it at the end of the season during routine engine tear-down. It caused no other damage.
However, I'm sure the product couldn't hurt, nothing like a little extra insurance. I'd say that 331 engine was a bit more highly stressed thatn mine was. -TD
Hey tigerdan, I've heard of a few people breaking their blocks this way. Mostly Mustang guys running around 500 hp with power adders. I've been told by a few people that 400 hp is prety much the limit for a factory 5.0 block.
Thats why I'm interested in these girdles. i'd like to get around 400 HP out of my 302 that I'm building. It would put my mind at ease knowing that i'm not pushing the limits of my block if I had some of these girdles in it.
However, I know nothing of their reputation for reliability or effectiveness.
It seems like a good idea to me. But I'd really like to get some more feed back before I drop $230 on a set.
Well, it's a bit slow in here today but it should pick up a bit this evening. Hopefully someone will stop by who's familiar with this problem and/or product. I'm interested as well...! -TD
On Edit: BTW, interesting username there, stinkfist. I'm not sure I want to know...!

Yeah, Thats actually where I saw it. I was very interested since I'm building a 331 and would like to have the option of putting boost on it later. These girdles seem to be a good idea.

LOL! Don't worry, It's not what you're thinking. It's a song I like by one of my Favorite bands, TOOL. They are a pretty heavy, kind of metal, band. I get that response all the time.

heavy metal! na hard rock goes well for me . woodstock 1969 type.i was there. also some blue grass helps to mellow me out when i'm stressed out
By the time you put that and a main stud girdle into a stock block you shoulda bought a sportsman or Mexican block to start with IMO.....
Lots of the 'stang guys view these as a sham.
I agree, drilling the holes for this thing probably wouldn't weaken the block, but I wouldn't do it just for a parts catcher. Thats all the main girdles turn out to be when the block splits. I have seen it too many times.
I agree with jimbo302 all thoes things are gona do is keep every thing together in a nice neat package when and if it pops. Get yourself a dart or world block and problem solved.
