it's gonna be a afr(205 or 225) 418.i have a windsor block to use.was going to get a dart block but i broke a lifter in my bronco and it chowed the cam.so the money i was planning on using for the dart block is now going into my bronco engine.
i wanted to go 4.125 with a 4" stroke in the dart but most likely will do a 4.1" in the windsor block.
i realize a roller cam & lifters doesn't add up to $2000 ,but i'm sure i'll do other stuff when i have it opened up.
just have to force myself to work more overtime.yuck
You'd need a lot of power in a small block to need splayed caps. I agree with everyone else get yourself a stud girdle. If you want the 4.1 stroke you get it bud! Won't hear me criticize!

thanks.i had just read differing opinions on whether a girdle actually does any good other than hold the parts together when the block splits in two.a windsor block is a fair amount stronger than a 302 block.
i was just mainly wondering if anyone had put splayed caps on a windsor before.it's pretty common practice on the evil bowties.
if you really want them i like milodon's kit. they give you the tap, bit, bolts, bit slide(to line up the drill correctly)and caps. My buddy did it himself on his 429 the only tools needed was a drill and the tap wrench. they are well built also. For these small block's i just don't see much of a need. the windsor blocks do hold together better on the bottom end than 302's do.

i hope he had it line honed afterwards.i'll probably just go the girdle/studs route.then if i break it i'll get a dart block.it should hold up for what i will be doing with it.
