Line-X - what prep do I watch for?

I'm planning on getting the Line-X spray in bedliner soon. The local franchise is brand new. What kind of things/parts do I need to make sure get masked off/ not sprayed? I read on another post a guy could barely close his tailgate. Also, what becomes of the bed rail plastic covers -- it doesn't look like you can just take them off and spray the bed side tops - there are holes that the current factory covers attach to.

tpetty,

I didn't actually watch them prep mine, but I did have the tailgate issue and basically it's because they applied a nice thick coating of material. The rubber stops that the tailgate butts against were the culprit and have since conformed to the extra pressure against them and the gate closes fine now.

I had no overspray anywhere on mine and it still drains like factory. All the bed bolts and tie downs on the side of the bed were removed prior to spraying. Bed rail caps stay on and are masked.

I have a few pics in my gallery.

Another problem that someone else had was they blocked the drain holes at the front of the bed. They are supposed to put something in the drain holes, spray the liner, and pull the plugs out so the bed still drains.

Make sure if you have plastic steps on the bumper and near the rear license plate that they are covered. Some kind of solvent is used to clean prior to the actual spraying and it will take the "shiny" finish off the steps forever.

I had mine done AFTER buying from the dealer and saved over $200 what the dealer was charging. Love it. I have tossed all kinds of stuff in it and it still looks new after a power wash. No trouble with the tailgate, no over spray, no problems.

Linex

I had mine done also and have no problems. Everything works just great. With a new company, you might have to worry about a rookie sprayer missing a step or not prepping something correctly but for the most part I dont think you will need to worry. Once you get your truck back you will see just how awesome this stuff is and looks
I also went to a classic car show here in town and the LineX guys were there demonstrating their product. They were line-x'ing everything you can think of (including a donut) just to show how versatile this stuff is.

Make sure that they do a good job of scuffing the painted areas to be covered with Line-X, to ensure better adhesion.

I watched them do mine they just masked off the plastic and the upper ortion of the truck and then took the tailgate off. All bolts were removed and they scuffed/cleaned the entire bed with a green scotch pad and got it ready. The only issue I had was that I removed the bed extender before taking it in and they forgot to clean out the holes that the bed lock pushes into. Easy fix I took it back and they drilled them out for me for I did not have a bit that size. that is what they would have done any way.

Best stuff ever...just tell them to let you watch...most will do it and explain the process to you if you have questions.
