What is the best way to fly a flag(and secure it) from the back of an 04 F-250? I'm not planning on driving very fast with it back there, but don't want it to fly off or onto another car. I wouldn't want it to be a permanent thing. Just fly American flag around holidays and sports flags during football season. Just curious how everyone does it. Thanks.
You'd probably have to mount a stand in the bed of the truck somehow. You could use the normal stand that bolts to the wall of a house, and bolt that to a 2x4 and secure it in the bed, or some sort of similar setup.
i am not sure but does the new F-250s have the slots cut into the bed caps?
like the 90s or is it like the newer 97s that have the plastic bed caps that you can remove the plastic plug and have the open hole
There is a hole cut/ with the plastic cover over it. But the hole isn't too deep. There is some metal down there. So I don't think it is deep enough for a pole. Maybe just a short pole rigged somehow to stay put.
Is there anyway you could take the ball of the hitch and stick a threaded pole through there and then screw it back onto the hitch. If you get what I am trying to say.
get one of those flag brackets at say, Wal-Mart, and mount it on your wheel well, that gives you angle and with the right pole, will give you the height to clear your bed
I had 2 2'x4' American flags mounted on my 04 f-150 over the 4th of July. I used a piece of 1" PVC pipe to attach the flag to. I then used heavy duty wire ties/ cable ties to secure the pipe to the factory bed hooks and also through the bed stake holes. I had them so secure on the truck I was still able to open the tailgate without the flags falling down. The fastest I prolly drove that weekend was round 60-65. I had no problems with them wanting to come out. Of course the flags did start to fray a little but thats to be expected. If you want I can take some pics for you, just let me know.
I forgot to mention if you wanna use bigger flags I'd recommend at least schedule 40 PVC or thicker. I used SDR 21 PVC for mine which worked good for the slightly smaller flags.
I Used to fly a 3x5 confederate and american flag in the back of my truck. I used one of those white rod holders for a boat and screwed them to the side of my bed in the corner next to the tailgate. I put the rod holder almost as high as the bed rail for more support. I used the metal conduit from home depot, the biggest that would fit in the holder. Then I would use about 10 zip ties perflag to hold it to the pole. I used to go down the turnpike with no problem. I wouldn't go any bigger then 3x5 tho. Alson the nylon flags last a lot longer. One Of my buddies used my idea but he attached the rod holder to the middle of his toolbox. The rod holder is nice to because when you don't want to fly the flag you jusat pull it out.
