Flags on Trucks
It is fairly common on trucks in the area I will be moving to out towards central Texas. My question is to thoses that have done this before, what is the ideal size?
I did find some 3x5 flags but I just feel that might be too big to mount on a truck especially if its mounted to a roll bar as the "mast".
I did find a nice small flag 42"x46" but it would have to be custom made and that's $195. I don't think I can justify having a $200 hand made flag mounted on my truck where it could be stolen.
So I want to hear what other people think as far as flag sizes goes. I am just unsure on the 3x5 flags and feel that they might be too big.

What brigade? I had a relative that fought in the 17th Regiment Texas Infantry and I was looking at using this flag on one side of the roll bar and another on the other side.
Problem is though only one place sells the 17th Regiment flag and its a 42"x46" flag which is hand made cloth selling for $195. The other flag I was looking at was Hoods Brigade flag which is a 3'x5' flag which is the Texas flag that is linked below for just $45. It is cloth which should handle the wind very well and even if it didn't handle the 80 mph speeds on the highway (where I will be moving everything is 65+ mph) the price is cheap enough I can just replace it.

Thing is though I have norelatives that fought in Hoods brigrade as far as I know of. So I kind of hate to use this one but my problem is mainly what size would be proper for being attached to the verticle roll bar poles on each side of the truck. Don't want too big but also don't want something tiny as well.
Plus most of what I found that I could see being used on my truck they only come in one size for the most part. If 3'x5' is not a problem to use this one then I might go with this but I don't want it to look oversized on the truck the same way a flag pole would look with too big of a flag on it.
I also like the 20th Regiment flag in design, but I still have a issue or concern with flying a flag that I do not have a link to via a relative serving in said unit. But this unit did serve in Texas for the most part which is a plus to me as well as defending Galveston from invasion.

HOWEVER - Units for the 17th Infantry and 17th Texas Cavalry were recruited from almost every county in Texas, forming different companies within. They were everywhere, in camps all over Texas, so the full history probably won't be known in this life. Hopefully he and I can have a good chat in the next.
One of my ancestors made the note, "As the story goes, he was returned home for burial by a slave in a wagon, same having said he had best go with him in case he was needed." Interesting dichotomy, isn't it - he owned slaves, and at least one went off to war with him, and brought his body home in a wagon. (And I'm also struck by this note every time I watch Lonesome Dove.) (And I'm also struck by the fact that my ancestors owned slaves. My ancestors, not me.)

Amazing to think that our ancestors may have served side by side in the War Between the States. But apparently the 17th was huge, like having two men serving in the 29th Infantry Division in WWII Europe.
Oh, and here's a picture of a Ford, to keep the thread relevant...

I am mainly looking at flags that are Texas in some way. Preferably from a time period when Texas wasn't full of pussies like now. Especially considering all the **** that I just seen going on at U of T with their vandalizing monuments just like in South Carolina.
But to be on topic I am currently looking at the 17th Regiment Texas Infantry battle flag listed above prefer to find one cheaper but that's the only one being reproduced. I am having trouble trying to find out what Brigade the 17th Infantry Regiment was under if there is a Brigade flag for the 17th Infantry I would fly that on the other side.
Problem is though I am a little concerned that 3x5 would be too large. I also need to hurry up because I just saw on facebook that Ebay is removing anything that is related to the Confederacy and I am sure the Texas flags from that time would be as well.

Interesting, from the little bit of reading I have done the 17th Infantry Regiment was formed around Central Texas including counties such as Austin County, Fayette County, etc. Didn't know they were formed all over the state.
I don't even know what division he served in just know that he was in the 17th Infantry. From the little searching I did I didn't find much other than there was a 17th Volunteer, 17th Calvary, and 17th Infantry.
Only thing of interest as far as this flag topic goes would be if theres a brigade flag currently reproduced for the brigade that the 17th Infantry fell under. I can find the brigades for other regiments but nothing really comes up for the 17th Infantry.

Ain't it incredible how politicians will bend over for any special interest group that raises its voice. So a petition with 1,600 names gets circulated at UT, and the admin pitches a hysterical fit. How many of those names aren't even students, out of the 40,000? Who do they think their biggest donors are?
Walmart pulling merchandise? Seriously? They'll be closing 5,000 stores in the South next year because of the boycotts. And NASCAR? Who's their fan base? Who thought THAT was a good idea? All they've really done is riled up about a billion good ol' boys.
When I heard about Amazon pulling Confederate merchandise, I called and cancelled my Amazon VISA. I told the nice rep that while I'm not pro-slavery or a Klan member, I absolutely resent any company dictating to customers what they can or cannot buy, when that item is both legal and historical. I'm certain she thought I was a lunatic. And I haven't shopped at Sears or Target in years.
As for eBay ... a search for "****" just turned up 24,000+ listings. And they call the Confederate flag a symbol of hate and division. Go figure. eBay will change its tune, of course, because it's all about money and the fees for them. They finally caved on gun parts and magazines, just to turn a buck. Like others, they'll play along until they realize that they've lost more than they've gained.

That's the thing I don't believe it because the items are still on ebay. THey also said Dixie flag manufacturing company said they wouldn't stop selling then they said they would but yet their website still shows the flag up. Not the battle flag but the national flag.
