i have a 91 f-150 i am using as a beater to save miles on the p-stroker. I have sirius sat. radio and a decent headunit in it for the 1.5 hour ride to work. I blew out one of the speakers in the door. does anyone know what size speaker i can put in the door without too many mods. a little trimming in the door or a few drilled holes i can handle but i don't want to have to like rewire the whole stinking truck. I have heard 4" and also 6.5" fit but just want to make sure before i spend 80 bucks or so on a set of speakers. thanks for the info guys.
thanks for the help guys. once again the forum has come thru. it is so stinkin hard to look that stuff up on the internet. some sites say 4 others say 6.5 you just never know. now. has anyone put speakers in the back?? i have the extended cab. with a fold down bench seat. what would you suggest for rear speaker mounting areas.
Extended cab should have 6x8's in the rear already, but I suppose it was optional and your truck might not have that option. If there is no place for rear speakers in the truck, a good alternative would be to get a pair of 6x9 boxes for the rear, and just mount them on the floor.
If your '91 is like my '93, the stock rear speakers are 6x8. However, most aftermarket 6x8's won't fit an extended cab because the magnet is too deep & bottoms out against the back of the cab. I learned this the hard way. I tried to mount Pioneer 6x8's. I forced the screws in thinking it wouldn't hurt. The next day, I noticed creases visible on the outside of the cab where the magnet had bottomed out. (The truck has since been painted & the creases taken care of.) This is why Crutchfield & most other retailers recommend 5x7's for extended cabs. I just thought I would pass this along to help you avoid the same problem.

My '91 extended cab doesn't have any rear speaker mounts. I looked high and low for them when I put in my 6.5" in the doors and I found nothing in the rear pillars.
