Hello,
I have a 94 F-150 4x4 that is in good shape with a lot of miles. It has the 300 l6 motor and 5 speed.I have access to a low mileage 95 motor and automatic trans. from another 4x4 F-150.Could I just use the ecm out of the 95 and put in the automatic trans? Is the wiring harness the same in the 94 to accomodate an automatic?I know I will have to change the steering column. Thanks in advance for any help anyone may be able to offer!

Assuming the 95 also has a 300, that will work if and only if both trucks are speed density and both trucks are OBD-I.
You will also have to swap the pedal assembly and tranny cross member. You may have to modify driveshaft lengths as well, as the auto will not be the same length as the 5 speed.
It's a lot of work, if you ask me. It may be cheaper overall to just replace the five speed. Better yet, replace it with a ZF.
what do you consider a lot of miles for your engine? The 300 has been known to go hundereds of thousands of miles before needing replacement, mine has 100,000 and it's just getting broke in. I can see wanting to swap out the mazda tranny and the zf is an excellent choice and a lot easier to swap in. My 5 speed has the varius leaks that they are prone too so I keep an eye on it regulary. I'm still paying for mine and I want to get a zf but it's hard to save money when you have payments so I hope it'll last for one more year.
I know someone who had just short or 425,000 on their inline before it puked (So he thought). Wasnt anything major. I bought the truck for 150 and realized the engine cranked over, just no spark. They I pulled the distributor cap off and then distributor didnt turn. So later I found out that the distributor gear just wore off. Put a new one in, and I've got a decent lookin 88 with an I6.
