i have a '92 supercab and was gonna replace the stock speakers. i read that the door speakers are 6-1/2" and the ones behind the back bench seat are 5"x7". is that correct? hate to buy speakers online and be the wrong size. thanks!
that looks about right. check out crutchfield.com they will have the dimensions for sure. but yes its a 5x7 in the rear and 6.5 in the front if im not mistaken
I think the door speakers are either 6 1/2" or 5 1/4", I can't remember & I'm not at home or else I would check the box from my Polk speakers. I believe the rears are indeed 5" x 7"s but some 6" x 8"s will fit in those locations. Go to Crutchfield.com and use their "What Fits?" function under Car Audio/Elec. They have never been wrong when I looked up info there, and you don't have to register or buy anything to use that function. I often find what I like at Crutchfield and then try to find it cheaper somewhere else.... Although if you happen to order from them, they provide tech support for as long as you own the item(s), free installation pieces (wiring harnesses, for example) and installation instruction sheets.
If you measure carefully and have a Sawzall and Dremel, you can also fit 6x9's in the front doors without modifying the interior panels. Not for everybody of course, but it is doable.
You are correct on the sizes, but I'll add some more tips here from my experience. The front speakers are 6.5", BUT the opening is only 5.25" in the door. You have to check with the speakers your buying. If the cutout diameter for the speaker is larger than this 5.25" than cutting will be needed.
For the rear speakers, 5x7" is correct. However you must be mindful of the depth of your new speakers as they can hit the back of the cab if they are too deep. Also be careful of running screws in as they can hit the can and dimple it if they are too long. You do not want to do that...
since i had the xlt, it came with the power windows and locks, but the drivers lock mechanism wouldn't stay in its mount. plus when we got the truck the passenger window motor was out and on a super hot day the driver's window motor stopped working, too. so we gutted all that out of both doors and put manual windows and locks in it, so im currently using the two piece door panels off of an 8th gen f150 since we coudlnt find any panels from a 9th gen, not sure if theres a difference in the speaker cover or not.
