HMMMMMMMMMMMMM SEEMS ODD I WORK AT A FORD DEALERSHIP AS A DIESEL TECH THE 7.3 WILL RUN WIH THE ICP UNPLUGGED BUT I TRIED A FEW 6.0L THE OTHER DAY AND ALL 5 OF THEM WOULD NOT RUN UNPLUGGED THEY STALL IMMEDIATLEY ARE YOU SURE IT WAS NOT THE EBP UNPLUGGED THEY HAVE THE EXACT SAME CONNECTOR ?
Mine is a 2004 6.0 with the ICP Sensor in the right valve cover, and I began having the surging/occasional dying problem, so just this morning I unplugged the ICP Sensor, and it set a light, but I drove it 24 miles with absolutely no surge feeling. Im sure I unplugged the ICP too, because I have been monitoring my ICPV(voltage) with my Edge Insight CTS monitor, and as soon as I unplugged it, the reading went to zero, and about 20-30 seconds later the light came on. I unplugged it with the engine running.
Sorry to jump in here but I am experiencing the same surging issues with the same code. I have a 04 F350 4x4.
Could I be so luck that my ICP is located on the right valve cover? I do have a sensor that looks exactly like the pics I have seen of the ICP. Any ideas how I would know for sure?

An 04 truck can have an 03 or 04 motor in it depending on production date. ICP sensor on the 04 and up engines is in the top/front of the passenger side valve cover. there's really nothing else in the passenger side valve cover but the oil fill spout.

Unless you are over 100K you should still be under warranty
Tell me more... I have the sensor/pigtail problem and I was about to go buy the stuff and do this myself because I thought by now all the warranty was gon. It's 8 years old but only has 59K on the clock because I only use it to tow with and that amounts to about4K a year at the most now. I didn't want to go to the dealer to pay big shop fees while they play toss-a-part and see what happens. I can do the work but I'd rather let them if it's covered. If those wires are burning that is a definite manufacturing defect that calls for a rerasonable fix.
Ok, my truck had probleIt's hard to explain how it sounded when it cranked over but it was sluggish and sounded horrible. I took it to the dealership the other day and what I thought was being caused by low bettery voltage actually turned out to be the ICP sensor. There were no codes or anything but the tech used his computer to check the voltages at the various sensors and the ICP was at .55 when it should have been at .15, so he unplugged the ICP and said when you unplug it the trcuk goes to a default. After he unplugged it, the truck started perfectly. I am now looking for a new sensor, but I thought this was good information for anyone troubleshooting starting problems.
Not directly. Exposing the sensor to the upper limits of it's operating range more frequently can possibly shorten it's service life. If the sensor goes shortly after programming, chances are it wouldn't have lasted much longer anyway.
The ICP is a simple pressure transducer. It works in a very harsh environment, and it won't last forever.
Its a diablo sport predator. I saw on the racall page that theres some kind of recall on ficm and icp any info about tha would help. I only installed the tuner a few months ago dont remember if it acted up befor the tuner is on 60 hp tune. If it wouldnt b for the tuner i wouldnt kno about the codes p2285 & p2287. It felt like the engine missed afew time so i scaned for codes and them 2 came up. Cleared them and they didnt come back yet its only been 4 days. I noticed when i stopped a few times it wanted to jump an idled up and down.
