We WERE the remote! "Put it on 4, son and turn it up a little." Good thing we only had 4 channels. There was more worth watching on those 4 channels back then than on the 500 or so I've got now." We never missed Hee Haw or Gunsmoke.
Hawaii Five-O, Mannix, or Police Woman either.

I'm 26(no laughing and pointing) and I remember:

tryin to catch crayfish near the lake
smell of the mud when the slew dried up
the steel steps, 12, to the mud when the slew dried up
feel of the sand in my sandbox
the fridge that opened from either side - I want one to this day!
playing horsehoes with my sister and uncle
lawndarts!
a fuzzy memory of a really upscale McDonalds
a birthday party at Mcd's and plastic benches and fries and a vanilla shake
the screen door that would never latch properly for my 4yo self
painting my bicycle copper color with my dad
glass pop bottles from a Mom&Pop shop in downtown-and we would return them for 5c
wearing my Dukes Of Hazzard shirt for only my mom knows how long
water pistols
sound of boats speeding by on the water
getting in a boat for the first time, 4yo, with my Dad rowing
trying to ride my bike on the frozen water in winter
thinking I(4yo) saw the BIGFOOT monster truck where we were camping(a big blue truck)
running around on my plastic foot powered motorcycle(no pedals) with broken handlebars that my Dad fixed with wooden dowling
watching my Dad drive his bulldozer on the driveway
having to get glasses for first grade
swinging off the monkey bars at school
watching the space shuttle Challenger disaster onTV and not understanding it at the time
walking to school with my sister everyday and home again afterschool
exploring the nearby woods
getting up early every saturday for cartoons

No matter what age you are, you'll always have childhood memories, unless you are a child, then you are making memories for later...

forgot to add:

sitting in the very back seat of the station wagon with my sister, facing the rear window, making faces at the drivers behind us (you know those rearfacing seats in oldsmobiles, or was that just ours?)(I think I was 4 and she was 3&half)
