The thread on cats got me to thinking about people who don't like them. I notice that people who dislike cats really seem to hate them with a passion, and I got to wondering why. Did you have a bad experience with a cat when you were child, got scratched or something, and now hate the whole species because of it? Or are cats just too namby-pamby for your taste in a pet? Or too independent? I found out much later that the neighbor who killed my cat a few years back got scratched as a child and blamed all cats ever since. Just curious to know what could spark such emotion for a mere animal, please, no flames or trolls. -TD
I'll tell you why I like cats. What else other than a cat can want attention one minute, then turn around, stick their butt in your face and fa...errr.. pass gas!
Independent yes. Spiteful? sometimes. But the love they give is unlike anything else. I miss my cat (my ex-wife got her)
Dogs just look at you with their tongue hanging out. There's always this "the lights on but nobody is home" look with a dog.
Anyone who harms a cat deserves to be harmed themselves.
I very much DISLIKE cats because they try to climb on my vehicles and leave scratch marks in the paint down to the bare metal. They also scratch the windshield.
I am also allergic to them.
Dennis, you'll notice that in my post I used the word "dislike" as well as "Hate". I used the word hate because that's the word I've seen some others use in their posts in other threads about cats. I know that some people merely dislike them, and I've met a few who actively "hate" them. I knew a guy years ago who would go out of his way to try to hit one with his car if he saw one crossing the street. He actually totalled his '65 Mustang trying to hit a cat (missed-score: cats=1, cat hater=0). I'm just at loss to understand how some people could feel such a strong negative emotion for an animal. There was a post in another thread that got me to wondering this, although I can't seem to find it now, possibly it was deleted. If you feel this subject is too inflammatory, by all means delete the thread. -TD
Andy, you just have be smarter than the cat. My cat is very well trained. He's like a 5 year old though. If he doesn't get his way he goes and pouts for an hour, and then comes back all apologetic.
I have two cats and what i have noticed is two things about folks that dislike them. 1. They are alergic( i know a few who are) and 2. are the ones who have had bad experiences with them(this also applies to dogs or other animals).
My Cats have their own personality and you kinda have to get to know them before you judge them.
I don't dislike cats at all and my post might have seemed that way. I hate that people are hygenically challanged enough to not realize that their houses stink like urine. Very few cat owners live in house that doesn't . Most people say not my cat but, yet everyone notices it but them. I like watching that show where they show a house to sell it and before they fix it up and listen to recording of people touring it. Amazingly alot of people notice who has cats and who doesn't. Hygenically ALOT of cat owners are disgusting- Why anyone would want to live like that I do not know. I have known people with dogs that were like that, just alot more rarer. If you have a cat chances are everyone knows it without you telling them. Now the people with 25 cats in their homes well that certainly is another story..............
I use to be just a dog lover but a stray cat had kittens under my shed and she got ran over I took care of the kittens until I could find homes for them. I kept one for myself but unfortunately she got hit a few months later. Needless to say raising them has given me a new respect for the little furry critters. If I just lived farther away from the main roads I might would consider getting another cat.
I have always loved cats, big and small, and have never had the desire to have a dog. Recently, over the last 2 years, my wife has picked up 2 dogs, and I have grown very fond of them. the whole "lights are on" statement is true, but I have noticed it to be more like they are trying to figure out what you are trying to say.
I have one cat that is the most friendly loving cat.....as long as you are outside with him, and when inside, he is a demon. my other cat is a indoor only runt (2 Lbs and 3 years old) who is just as loveable as a cat could be.... untill she wants to play, then she turns into a tasmanian devil.
I liked every cat I ever owned and took great pride in providing good care, food and our families love...
I dislike catowners that allow their cats to roam the neighbirhood and:
1) Urinate & deficate in my yard and/or use our landscape wood/mulch as a litterbox.
2) Mark their territory by "spraying" certain trees, bushes, etc.
3) Attempt to enter our garage or home for unknown reasons.
4) Attempt to entice our cat (in our yard) to fight.
5) Snarl at our dog.
6) Lay on the hood of our vehicles.
7) Fight other cats & animals at night waking up the neighborhood.
8) Any of the above = public nuisance
If my dog or cat ever does any of this, I would not be offended if a neighbor was to knock on my door and tell me to control my animal...
I have to say I don't dislike or hate cats, but I live in town and have no use for them. This town is full of feral cats since to city put in an ordanance that you have to pay to lic your cat or any animal, and most people rather than paying for it leave the cat outside, and claim it isn't thiers they then breed, and multiply like rabbits at one time I had 8 of them in my garage (it isn't very tight just an old shed actually) they are always tearing things up walking on my vehicles, and I couldn't leave my door openin the summer or they would come into the house after my pet rabbit. my personal belief on cats is they belong in the country in a barn (when I farmed I had several that lived in the barn I didn't feed them, and you couldn't pet them as they were VERY wild but I also didn't have a big mouse, and rat problem) but if they are in town they either need to be kept indoors (for those that like them ), removed or destroyed as they can be a real pest. BTW a neighbor got a live trap, and started setting it, then when he caught them he would take them out to the country, and release them no more cats in my garage now but go a couple of blocks, and they are running rampent I know of one abandoned house that has probably 30+ living in it.
