I finally got around to moving the CB from the 150 to the Bronco. However, I get a ton of spark noise on the thing when the engine is running. I tried a noise filter but no change. The guy at the parts store said that the EFI engines (mine is an '88 351w) had a funky electrial system, and he was never able to figure out why it put out so much electrical noise.
I had the exact same problem - as many have posted.
It seems that the majority of the noise was coming from the fuel pump - because as soon as I would key on - I'd get a "blast of noise" (fuel pump priming) then nothing - then as soon as I started the truck it'd start all over again.
I solved most of my issues by grounding my CB directly to the battery (ran a new wire).
Do like Dan and try grounding directly to the battery. Most motor noise in cbs' and radios' is from the grounding. A bad ground will make all kinds of noise.
I tried running wires to the pos and neg on the starter solenoid, I guess that's not good enough, I need to go straight to the battery? I'll give it a try.
Siphor, most noises at your cb are caused by other things as u say -interference etc. Its a good idea to put filters on the interferences as well. Grounding does help as i had always did on my vehicles TR
It also depends where the noise is getting into the C.B. from. It usually is from the power line but also can come from the antenna itself. Disconnect the antenna and see if the noise clears, if so move the antenna somewhere else on the truck. As far as power goes the battery is always the source with the least amount of noise, it acts like a cap to filter things out.
Ford did have a problem with their electric fuel pumps generating noise years back and actually have a fix for it but it requires dropping the tank to get to the pump. I am sure there are a few tsb's on it if you look it up.
IF...I could post pics...I would show you how my COBRA is mounted on top of the dash...ant. is dead center of the truck...NO CO-AX COILED UP... ground to batt. AND body...absolutely NO ENGINE NOISE and a flat SWR.
ive had my radio shack cb in 3 differant fords (88 f150, 90 F150, and my bronco or course) and i never had any real problems with interference from the truck. i have it mounted on the bottom of the ash tray. i run the cb off of a spare space in the fuse block, and ground it right to the firewall. i run the coax in the bronco under the passenger floor cover, under the seatbelt cover, and up to the trim panel on the cap, and out the tailgate where i have the baseloaded antenna mounted on the spare tire rack. it works great, no noise (except from the old tranmission lines on my house, which make noise), and the antenne works good, and dosnt have to come off if i wanna go 4x4ing.
Well, I'm at a loss. I hooked it straight up to the battery and still got tons of enigne noise, even with a filter put on. Next, I tried hooking it with the whole radio and antenna out of the truck and three feet away from the front of the truck. Still got noise. It does clear when I take off the antenna. Any other ideas to try?

Thanks for the help.
Is your ant. grounded? Mag mount or perm? What is your SWR? do you have resistor plugs?

as repoman said dont coil your coax and make sure you dont run it next to or across any power wires if that dont work try borrowing some one elses coax and antenna. yours could be bad
