temp gauge misreading

I have a dumb problem with the temp gauge: It runs up when I use other electrical things like the fanblowermotor or the a/c or just the headlights if I leave everything off the gauge is okay
I've pulled the instrumentcluster to look for the instrumentvoltage regulator
but there isn't one help please the truck is a F150 lariat from 1988 4wd automatic 5.8 ltr.

greetings George

Sounds like a possible ground problem. You have several ground straps around the engine compartment that run from the engine block to the sheetmetal on the firewall. And you possibly have one that goes from the battery negative to the fender or radiator support. This one is famous for a little connector inline getting corroded. If you can't find any straps, add one from the block to the firewall and see if it helps.
