startermotor amps

how many amps would a startermotor draw when in a cold start??
my starter draws 720 amps when at roomtemperture when the temps drop below freezing its a hellofajob to get the engine running, so I use the blockheater.
can anyone give me the numbers??
thanks in advance

Most of the Mitsubishi starters draw 3.6 KW which should be 300 amps at 12 volts.

do you know which starter you have and what the cranking voltage is? as the voltage lowers the amps go up, sounds very high to me.

Sounds like a dead/dying starter. Could also be your batteries are low, watts (kw) is volts x amps, less voltage available means more amps to do the same job. But dying starter is more likely with those numbers.
FWIW, cranking voltage is much less than 12v, at 8v you're looking at 450amps given a 3600 watt load.
