I have a 77 F100 and I got the truck and it has a Grant steering wheel on it and the guy that sold me the truck did not hook up the blinkers... I took off the steering wheel and took a look.. I have no idea how to hook them up, and I need some help, I have to drive the truck to my house wich is 3 hrs away.... Tomarrow night... so please reply soon! Very soon!!!! If you could tell me how to hook them up to a toggle switch That would be great for now... I just need to do something to make them temporarily work until I get her home and I can fix them permanently. Thanks ~
Left turn, arm straight out
Right turn, arm bent at the elbow, forearm straight up
Stop, arm bent at the elbow, forearm bent straight down
Check the wiring harnass behind the dash and make sure it is hooked up. If it is, there is no easy and fast way to get blinkers. (not that I am aware of anyways) If it is not hooked up, go get a fire extinguisher handy, and plug the harnass in. Check for bare wired hangin round anywhere, and bad connectins(before you plug it in). Also check for bad fuses, and look for a round silver cylinder lookin thing (it's a relay). There should be two of them. Swap them with each other, one does the turn signals, the other does the hazzards. The chances of the relay on the hazzards being good are fairly good in relation to the turn signals. If neither work, take one to the parts house match it up, and get another one. If they still dont work, and you know all the fuses are good, and the wiring harnass is hooked up, take a voltage meter and make sure that all the fusea are getting power. There is soooo much stuff to do and check for when faced with electrical gremlins, hopefully, my suggestions will fix your problem
My .02 cents....

Remember reading about those in the driver's handbook for your license? :-)
The little round cylinders are flashers, kind of like a relay, but they have a thermal element that heats the contact arm and causes it to make and break contact. If you ask the guys at the parts store for relays they may look at you funny... -hehe
Thanks for using FTE!

Do the emergency signals work? Brake lights? If so, and the underdash connector is hooked up and no wires are broke or cut, it might be the white plastic cam on the turn signal itself. These things wear out (especially the early '70's ones), but are fairly easy to replace if you can solder, and replacements are available at most parts shops (try Napa). I don't like the ones made by HELP as the stiff wire contacts are usually too long, but they can be trimmed to work.
Be advised also that some states (like here in CA) will now ticket you anyway if your turn signals don't work, even if you are using the arm signals out the window!
I am not sure if the emergency signals work... havent tryed them... I guess the turn signals worked befor he installed the new Grant stering wheel... So he said... So I duno, what would you recomend if the flashers dont? I am leaving now so I guess I cant get anymore help...thanks I will try some of the things everyone said. Thanks again ~
Dang, couild you imagine what a PITA to diagnose bad signals past what we have already discussed?? Tracing wires, checking and cleaning connections, renewing grounds.... ugh.....
