My Dash lights are freakin GREEN ... GREEN I SAY!!! I CANT STAND IT ANYMORE!!!!! I WOULD RATHER USE A MAGLIGHT TO READ THEM AT NIGHT THEN TO SEE THAT EVIL GREEN GLOW.....
I took one of them out and it has a green rubber cover over the bulb, I would like to replace this with a red cover so I would have red guage lights... is this a possibility? I have no idea where to get these red rubber thingys, so I thought someone else might? Please if anyone knows this tell me! Or if there is no way to buy them can I make somthing like them? maybe take some of that liquid staind glass stuff ? I need somthing different! Thanks ~
Try removing the green covers and replacing the bulbs with amber 194's.
Just my $.02

GREEN SUCKS! LOL, yeah actualy I was thinkin about doing that also.... but its not a ture red, I like the dark red color like a battleship at night, also I have heard some people say that at night red helps keep your retna in your eye open more so you have better night vision... thats just what I heard.... Im guessing thats why the navy uses all red at night and green durring the day?
Really? Thats a nice thing to know about the red dashlights.. but is it just the cover or is it the entire bulb that is red? and are the bulbs the same size? or will I have to rewire a different connector to it?

This is Exactily what I was wondering if there was a paint I could use or if I could buy the covers that are red. What is the paint called and have you or anyone else used this?
Paint will eventually burn off, and possibly take the bulb with it. I have seen plastic bulb covers (usually green) that seem like a good idea if they can be found.
I seen the thead where somebody was trying to get orante ligths, they got them all orange with the exception of the heater controls, it was said that the green was in the plastic

Take your instrument cluster apart. You will find the little bulb covers in question inside. The covers look blue when they are not illuminated. The covers are plastic caps. Even if you painted your bulbs you would have to remove the covers. The covers also serve two functions. Besides passing the green light the covers act as light diffusers, making the light spread out more.
Yea, I had the plastic blue covers with clear bulbs in my '73 dash. They were so old and hardened that I got very little illumination of my instruments at night and needed a flashlight anyway. So I simply popped the covers out and kept the clear bulbs and now the dash is nice and bright.
