So you guys figured out how to change the dash cluster now how about the heater controls and the stock am radio????? I want to brighten up my dash...evertime I try to read the gauges I about crash since I have to study them in the dark but I want them all to match.
Actually the best color for not obstructiong your night vision would be blue. It is the hardest color for your eyes to pick up.. Green is the easiest.. that is why nitevision goggles are green....this was on the discovery channels modern marvels.. red is just in the middle.. so if you want to see the dash good keep the green.. if you want the dash to not interfere with your nite driving go with the blue. and also red reflects less lite than the blue..blue light when reflected off of surfaces has a wavelength change to allow you to see your way around bettter. BLUE is the color of lights in the CIC of a ship ...i worked in the Combat Informations Center (command center) while in the navy.. i replaced those red AND blue lights... but the red might be used in movies more as an effect.. i never seen a CIC with red! Maybe subs do"?
Not sure what size they fit,( pretty sure 194 bulbs) but most Auto Meter aftermarket guages ( tachs, temp guages, etc...) come with red and green diffuser covers in the packages, im pretty sure you can order extra ones from the Auto Meter catalog.
In army aviation, we seemed to use green and blue all the time. Anything else shuts the nigt vision goggles down. For police, red lights are used in the dome, but thats because the take down spot light is on the suspects vehicle, and the red dome produces enough light to write a citation. But not enough light for the suspect to see inside the officer's car. Don't want the suspect to shoot the officer. Funny how police use blue lights for the cruisers when its the hardest light to see at night. Anyone see a vehicle loaded with LED blue lights yet. WOW!!!!
Red is easier on the eye at night. The only reason to use a green bulb is if you are going to drive with night vision goggles and no headlights because green will not interfere as much with the night vision goggles. How's that for a reason?
