Need Quick Help !! want interior lights off/hatch open
Wife and kids want to go to drive in movie. 2001 EB how do I keep interior lights off with hatch open. I tried locking the hatch latch while open, did not work. I tried turning the dim switch to each extreme no help. The only thing I found was to pull the fuse, but do not want to do that. All replies appreciated !!
Get there 45 minutes early. The battery minder will turn off the lights after 45 minutes. But don't open any doors after that or the clock starts running again.
Is there a pin switch for the back gate? If there is you could try using somethign to hold it in as if ther back gate were closed. Possibly a strip of electrical tape to hold it depressed?
No visible pin switch, I heard its in the latch mechinism but with the hatch open and latch moved to close it is still on. As far as removing bulbs, there are 4 overhead and 4 in the running boards that stay on so that is not an option. If I pull the fuse you loose the power windows which you may adjust if the night cools off.
Ok here ya Go! Behind the rear panel on the drivers side of the vehicle is a wiring harness. You will need to remove the third row seatbelt anchor and the rear window controll arm to take the panel off. Look for a purple wire with a white stripe on it. Cut it in half and mount a single throw toggle switch or rocker switch in this line. I installed mine about 3 years ago. No problems to date. The great thing about this is, Even with the switch off you still have use of the interior lights with the doors and dimmer control. This only eliminates the hatch and rear glass! Good luck!
As the last post said, purple wire with white stripe. I did not have to remove seatbelt, just door seal and tugged on harness a bit to get access. I added some wire and then put a nice rocker switch in front of where seatbelt goes though plastic over rear A/C. As mentioned best thing about it is all doors control lights as normal and rear hatch light control is via the switch when the hatch is open. Good luck.
I've been in the same situation and justed pulled the fuse out... was driving down the road and had a thought. Maybe just pull the interior light relay out so the power windows still work.
Dont pull a fuse, dont play with wire harnesses..... on the hatch where it meets the truck body to lock, you will see a plastic looking swivel in the hatch .... use your key and push it over.... Lights go out.... Use your key to push the pad in and rotate it back and lights come on..... Just dont forget to do it and slam it shut, that will cause damage. I use my hatch as shade at NASCAR tailgate parties all the time... works great.
Thanks for all the help !! I did finally get it to go out by closing the latch, I was not pushing it far enough in . It has to rotate more than half way in, keep pushing until it goes all the way in. I will install a switch like suggested because between Myself, wife and kids I know one of us will accidently close the hatch with the latch locked and that will not be good.
