Mirror Glass Replacement??

I cracked the right side mirror glass on my 99 F250 SD last week as I backed out of the garage. Was looking for the kid's cats and not the door frame. To add insult to injury I have 10' wide doors. Oh Well!

The mirror is the telescoping type but only single swing on the thr right side, I had the dealer replace the left side with a double swing before I bought it (used) 2.5 years ago.

I have had the mirror off the truck to check for any other broken parts , but everything else looks OK.

NOW! How do I get the glass part out of the mirror frame. I have looked behind the mirror face and see up to 4 bolts the holds the thing together, but they look almost impossible to get at.

I am thinking that the glass part must "pop" out somehow.

I have a local glass company that will cut me a new mirror glass but I frist need to figure out how to get the old one out and then the new glass in.

I could break the glass out and see what is back there but thought that there might be something attached to glass that I could also damage by doing that.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ron

My 95 the mirror is glued to a plastic frame that adjusts. Local glass guy broke it out and took out the pieces, the replacements come with 3M peel and stick adhesive backing. Mine has been there 4 years at least.

Two things for your consideration:

Many auto parts stores have already cut self-stick mirror glass available for a multitude of mirrors.

I would get a convex glass for the right side, I had flat on one of the pickups I owned a while back and searched junkyards until I found a mirror head for the right side with the convex glass.

These are power mirrors, and I think there are 3 studs on the back of the mirror. When you buy the replacement, detailed instructions are included. From what I recall it's a little confusing, and tricky. Just make sure you get the right replacement, there are so many different mirrors fitting your description.

Thanks,

I "poped" the mirror face plate off this morning. There are 5 contact points on this thing. One main in the center, it holds the whole thing on, two that are used as guides, and two to move the mirror.

Went to 5 local auto stores with mirror face plate in hand. Most did not even look it up the their books or computer. That part is NOT available from auto parts stores.

Called two auto glass stores, both could get part, ordered from store closest to home, should be in tomorrow or Sat..

I will take pic's and get part number for those who are interested.

Now I can set back and see if they get the right part ??!!

This has NOT been a whole lot of FUN!

I wish I had a double swing mirror on the right side like I have on the left.

Someday I will find a mate to the left without having to by a whole new truck.

Mirror glass replacement

All,
The lower, driver's side convex mirror (non-heated) on my 2000 F250 was broken in a recent hail storm. Any suggestions as to how I could replace it? I do not want to purchase the entire mirror assembly as it works fine.
Thanks

Dave
