The other day I was getting out of the truck on the passenger side (from the driver's side) and my elbow hit the rear view mirror and broke the glass mirror. The plastic housing seems to be fine.
Is there a way to just replace that part? I looked at the back of the mirror and I didn't see any screws holding it to the arm that goes between the mirror and windshield. So I was thinking maybe it was glued on.
As a side note, my windshield is cracked and I had been thinking of getting a new one. Maybe I can get my rear-view mirror replaced when I have the windshield replaced? Not sure if this is a common thing the windshield repair places have in stock to replace.
Auto glass shop for the windshield, and they may have or be able to get the mirror, too. If not, try a regular glass shop--they may have on-site machinery with templates for cutting the mirror. It's likely just glued into the plastic and they'll use a long, thin butter-knife-type of utensil to cut it out.
I got a whole new mirror for $5 from the junk yard. As I was removing the old mirror, the metal piece that is glued to the windshield came off. What type of glue should I use to put that back on? I have epoxy, will that work or is there something better? Would superglue work?
