Today i had a guy who works with me ask me if the money was right would i sell my 01 7.3 liter diesel Excursion.....i have put on a new 4" exhaust, three pillar gauges , AFE stage 2 proguard 7 filter, edge evolution tuner and air lift air bags in the rear... this thing is ready and willing to tow anything.....i have 101,000 miles on it and all the little things are starting to need replacement,,,,,Ball joints, shocks .....little things that will need replacing.. plus my wife wants an new diesel pick up truck to hauls the quads and pull the trailer.... with is a good idea but i think i will wait till the 6.3 comes out, but would anybody out there sell it???? o the right money, for me it would be 20K thanks for any input.... Ed
I wouldn't take $20K. Might think about it for $25K. I wouldn't even think about a 6.0, wouldn't consider a 6.3 either unless it has at least 8 more bolts holding each head on.

gotta throw in my 02.... i wouldn't trade my 02 for anything... this truck runs better everyday... it has been a labor of love at times... getting the gauges and tranny cooler on were not the most fun things i've ever done, but i like doing what i can myself, and it saves me money... no sir, i don't think i'll be getting rid of my mule for a long time...
Guys,,, dont get me wrong,,, i love my Mule and in fact i just got out of bed to come write this because in a way from what i wrote earlier about thinking about selling her i felt like i am letting her down or something ... i know i sound crazy... tonight she is spending the night at a garage and in the morning getting new ball joints and shocks on her ... and cant wait to get her back......
Man, new ball joints, new shocks, your set for a good while. I would love to pick up a nice used "X" 7.3L for my wife,(wink, wink) when I get some more dough. Don't sell her.(The X)
Do the little things, spend a couple of bucks and enjoy the ride. No matter what, the 7.3 is still king of the truck line, no disrepsect intended to those with the 6.0 Besides, no payments... and you could always move up to a massive Haulmark or equal and pull it with ease. My .02
you guys can knock the 6liter all you want, but mine has as many miles as my 7.3L and both have had the same issues... none.
i don't knock the 6.0... i hope that if ford is gonna stick with this motor, they continue to make it better and better and eventually it could be a more dependable motor than the 7.3.... i don't know.... i have talked with several guys who say there 6.0 kicks butt... i would however be happy if ford went with a more "proven" power plant that has TONS of power...

yes they are fast and alot of tourque, but $5-700/ month!!!!
also i have word from a few ford dealers i deal w/ and all the bugs are not worked out as of yet.
under load 6.0L are blowing head gaskets as the head bolts stretch, and again under a load the tubo tubes are now plastic and can separate from the cooler on intake!!!
may be fast but hey it needs to last 20yrs to be a good truck to me. i never get a truck under 75K, and mine has 160K on her. runs mint happy i found her when i did!!

That's cool for you. Lots of people have no problems with the 6.0, and more power to 'em.
For me, the fact that a small block chevy has more torque holding the heads down than the 6.0 does is troublesome enough that I will not ever consider owning one. IF the 6.3 has the same 10 headbolts when it comes out.......same same.

i have heard similar complaints as the stretch the bolts. if there were more then they could not stretch.
we need to do more R&D. like honda and toyota.
