Hi. I was looking at my light switch and seen a spot to the left of the light switch that I thought I could put a on/off switch for driving lights. Anyway I took the cover plate off and there's something there where I'd like to install the new switch. I don't know what it is but it has two wires hooked up to it. Does anyone know what this is and what it's used for? The Van is a 88 E-150. Thanks
I don't know about your 88, but on my 90, thats where the Check Engine light is. If you have an owner's manual, it'll usually tell you where every light and switch is, even if they're optional. Perhaps you can look there.
I don't have a manual. I was going to pick up one when I was at the store but didn't see any, maybe order one online. So it's a check engine light, wow. Is there any way to test it to see that it's working?
If you want the ultimate manual for your vehicle, contact Helms, Inc. Don't have their number but it's a 1-800. They reprint old factory service manuals.

Thanks for the pat on the back. Been feeling like somewhat of a dunce, lately.
Here's a link for re-prints (photo copied) from the actual Ford manuals; http://faxon.cx.portline.com/default...25273Q88112836

Simple to remove. Just look for the screws. The whole instrument panel comes off. The part housed in the foam is for the wiper delay circuit. I went and took that part out of my E-150 I was giving away and put it in my 88 E-350 RV to give it delay wipers because it didn't come with them. It just plugs inline into the same harness.
For anyone without intermittent wipers, it's just an extra piece of circuitry that plugs in between the stock wiring connector and the switch. Got one at the boneyard for $3.00. If necessary, the whole panel is an exact replacement for vehicles of the year range without intermittent wipers.
