I recently bought a 87 f-150 for my daughter, I have very limited history on this truck. It had 91000 miles and I replaced the ball joints, steering joints, shocks, brakes including hubs and drums, and new tires. When you brake, more noticeable from a higher speed, it feels like the rear of the truck is hopping or bouncing. This feeling is similar to that of a warped front rotor. Any ideas? It has rear anti lock brakes, could this be the source?
This got my attention because my 88 F150 does the same thing. I haven't done anything about it yet,but I am going to resurface the drums first and then the rotors and hopefully one are the other will cure it.I really don't think the RABS would cause that so I'll ask you if when you had your brakes done if the mechanic actually put new drums or resurfaced your old ones? If he installed new ones without double checking the factory cut on his brake machine,there is your problem!You would figure a new part out of the box would not need to be "turned",but it just isn't so when it comes to drums and rotors.Also,there is still the possibility that the drum may not have been chucked and squared properly when and if he resurfaced your old drums{it may not be his fault}.

My '88 does this too! But only after I have applied the parking brake and attempt to drive. Apparently, something is not releasing at the hubs. Thanks for this post. It's good information to check and its nice to know its a relatively common problem.
