has anyone outfitted the lunati cams in the 460cid in the heavy Lincolns. And if so did you still have strong low end power. I am looking at the Lunati 316A2LUN or the Comp Cam Exteme 4x4 34-231-4. Im looking for very strong low end to a strong mid power lets say off idle too 6000 rpms. Not so sure about the RV cams out there it seems to have a low power band. Give me a few suggestions or what your running in your 460 and how it does for you.
i recently put the truck avenger cam in my rebuilt 460. cam and lifter kit part number 90460LUN. i have no complaints, it does what i wanted, lots of low end torque and very nice idle, not lopey at all. i'm still taking it easy on the truck, but from the specs my cam will start dropping off around 5k which is fine with me. i put the 460 in a 68 f100 sb 2wd. with exhaust ported d0ve heads, 2.19 intake, 1.74 exhaust, blue thunder dual plane intake and road demon 725 cfm vac. secondary carb. looks like you are headed in the right direction with the lunati cam you mentioned. i've never run comp cams. there have been some posts here lately about break in problems. cheers, garsten
The 90460LUN is pretty mild and not really much more than stock, but very effective for a solid rebuild with efficiency and durability being the main goal. The 00096 is a little more cam and has a noticeable chop at idle. It pulls great in the mids and up to around 5500, but at the expense of the broad low-end that the 90460 has.
I have never exceeded about 3300 rpm in my '83 F250HD 4x4. It's not that I've been afraid to, it's that I've never needed to. In fact, I've never completely floored it. It has abundant power without revving above 3300 and without flooring it. In fact, the only reason I've gotten to 3300 rpm is because it has 4.10's and no overdrive, and I had to hit 75 mph or so to pass a line of slow moving vehicles.
I have been thinking that if I ever change the cam, I'd get one that is all done by 3500 rpm, and have really HUGE low-end power. And, I'd put in the pre-smog timing set, too, for even more low-end.
Anyway, just my observations!
P.S. - Check out the Crower 22238 - It's my kind of cam!
