460 Efi Cam

I'm looking at putting a lunati 06169 or comp 249-34-255-5 cam in my 92' efi. Looking to retain speed density setup.

Will either of those cams require new lifters or springs?

Anyone have one?

Other cam choices?

Regards

I'm no 7.5L expert but I like the Lunati cam better, it has a little shorter 0.050" duration which should work better with the EFI system and the big block doesn't need as much help with short seat to seat durations to build low end torque so this one should do well there and allow the motor to make some more HP. This cam should produce a broader powerband... and I suspect matching springs will be necessary.

I personally like the Lunati as well.

I'm going to try and order one within the month along with a set of headers. (Are headers going to make a difference with my cat in place? I have to have it). Also going to port the heads at some point when I dig up more info on that.

What are my options with the stock intake manifold? Is the stock throttle body in need of replacing too when I go this route?

Bbk 61mm throttle body opens things up a bit, getting the intake manifold ported works too, Scott the Mad Porter is an EFI 460 guy, he does amazing work with heads, makes them breathe, complete night and day difference, he might have a good cam recommendation if you do the heads too. If I read somewhere right, he recommends th Lunati Voodoo with a custom grind.

Thorley headers are awesome, but Banks are considered to be the better. Banks have thick flanges, no need for gaskets.

I've had a set of thorleys before, I'll likely go that route. The banks headers are absolutely perfect, but the coin is just insane. I'm going to have to keep my cat though for emission. Do they have a set that fits as a direct or replacement in regards to bolting up to the cat?

I'm going to have to drop him a line then before I order a cam. I have read about the BBK throttle body. I think I'll probably acquire the proper throttle body and cam, and send the heads and intake manifold out to get reworked. I wonder what his pricing is?

Realistically, 300hp is easily attainable with speed density. I'm just stuck in that do I or do I not want more power situation....setting the truck up for sefi would be a huge pita. I have a list of the necessary parts and where to get them, but wiring everything is the blank spot. It's just one of those figure it out things...no diagrams that I've seen or write ups for that matter other than the few people refer to which really only mention the parts.

Maybe my conversation with scott could give some insight on what the best course of action is for me.

This forum has been so helpful so far.

Thanks again,
Nick
