im looking at dooing a top end build, i will keep the stock bottom end in it for as long as possible. i was wondering how much hp will my rods handle ive heard that is the 460s weak point. i wass looking to try for 500hp or around there
thinking about:
lunati voodoo 61603 its a 268 cam has power from 1800-6400
lunati valve train kit and timing chain
edelbrock air-gap intake
frpp scj 460 heads 72cc chambers
flow tech longtube ceramics
not to shure on the cam coice i wont be driving the truck much so i want to have a lumpy idle i dont know if this cam will give me that suggestions?

dont forget if your runnin an auto trans get ya a higher stall converter or she'll be doggy on the bottom end.as far as a top end rebuild go's sounds like your doin what i do. i have 50-55000 on my stock short block with a isky cam weiand stealth intake and a200hpshot of nos 3000 stall tci and a 9inch stuffed with 3:89's it been together for about a year now and it dont even smoke yet.i think this is the cheap way out when she blows ill just drop in another short block with my goodies in it
Is it a car or truck engine? The truck engines came with D0OE rods and can handle 500 hp EASY. You can swing those to over 6000 RPM's and push over 600 hp. The car rods are weaker, but there are some guys making around 500 hp on those, too. Not sure what the longevity is of those at that power level, though.
it is a truck motor with the d3ve heads but i will slap on some scj heads as soon as i can. looking for a 500hp topend build i have seen the edelbrock power pkg and i was going to do the same as that with different heads cam and carb hoping for 520hp but we will see i want a realy ruff idle so you know when i start it that it has been cammed up what cam should i be running?
Are you going to stay at 460 cubic inches? If you stroke it, that will change what size cam you need. That being said, you're going to need something in the 240 intake duration range at 0.050 to make that kind of power. I would suggest the aluminum SCJ heads. Match those with a big Stealth intake. If it's just going to be a weekend warrior truck, then I would go roller.
Tell me some more specifics and I can give you a specific cam rec. Or I can just throw out a combo for you. LMK.
budget? not shure i should be able to get all the topend stuff i need for about 3000cdn. i would like to stay with the 460 bottem end for now maybe later will do a 514 or 521. the block is from a 75 marquis i think so it would have the crappy rods. the combo i was going for was scj heads, edelbrock air gap intake, 750 or 850carb, longtube headers, and 4.56 gears with 28 or 30 back tire.
youll have over 3000 canadian into just getting those scj heads and assembling them. then youll probably have to find someone to put valve reliefs into your existing pistons because the scj valves are placed a little differently than stock. if it were me and i wanted to keep the bottom end stock, id probably go to the trick flow streets, or just port the stock d3ve's- properly ported theyll support 600 horse.
more info on the trick flow streets? i doo want to keep the stock pistons. the truck will maily be used to beat-up on the chevy's around here. more or less a weekend worrior 1/4 mile truck.
just ordered a 2007 mustang yesterday so i dont want to load too much cash into the truck just yet need too mod the stang.
whats the exchange rate these days? last time i checked it was around 75 cents american to a dollar canadian... so if youve got a budget of 3000 canadian, thats 2250 american... car to truck swap oil pan is 150, swap mounts are 100, so youre already down to 2000, 100 for a nice timing chain- set straight up, aluminum intake is around 250- id go a stealth, youre down to 1650, a cam and lifters and associated valvetrane 400-500, general bits and pieces (you always need small parts) 100-150, 500 for a good set of headers, all you can afford is to go buy a dremel and port your stock heads, and get a good valve job and some new valves and stems and possibly seats put in... and thats it. for porting instructions id go to www.reincarnation-automotive.com and pay the 25 dollars for a membership, it shows where to grind and where not to grind
motor is already in the truck my butget is around 3000 right now i can only have so many toys haha its and endless project truck so i will probly spend tons of cash on it.
well... the trick flow streets are 2044 assembled from summitracing.com, but youll still need rocker arms, pushrods, gaskets, the stealth intake, headers, and a good cam and lifters... and if you go too big of a cam youll need a stall converter... all that stuff is about 1200 dollars... so if you were throwing about 5000 canadian at the thing youd be good to go, and wouldnt have to worry about anything besides maybe a stroker kit later on.
