Who would want a car like that anyways. All that power and performance not to mention the great looks. Having to fight off the bikini clad models because not enough seats. No room for child seats. No bed to haul heavy tools and work supplies.......Man I wish I had one of those. "Sorry honey, you and the kids can't go with me."
OK, I was going to buy a GT the other day but the saleman talked me into a new minivan!!! He said it had the same quarter mile times!! I even got the same white stripes down hood. Put some 22's on that bad boy and I'm a chick magnet.
Okay, I found out the Viper does 0 to 60 in 3.9 seconds and the new 500 h.p. Vette does it in 3.7. Has anyone seen 0 to 60 or 1/4 mile times for the GT yet?
If I believe Motor Trend, the GT does the 0-60 in 3.6, the Z06 in 3.7. Quater mile times come in at 11.6/11.7, respectively. Both cars are still in 1st gear when they fly past 60. Top speed is quoted at 200+ for either car.
One number that jumped out at me was the GT's 0-150 time- 16.9 seconds.
Viper is made and sold by unAmericans. That is important to some of us that understand about the imbalance of trade [rpblem and the plummeting dollar and rising unemployment. Polarbear, thnx for the numbers. ATC, I raise chinchillas and have some nat'l champions. Do you know anything about chinchillas?
I'm starting to worry myself a little bit. It seems that more and more lately, when I look at vehicles like the GT, I can't help but think of things like stratospheric insurance premiums, 30K services at the dealer (you know, the ones not covered by warranty), idiots flinging open their car doors into it (or worse yet some jealous loser keying it up), or maybe even some city taxi driver giving it a good scrape with his mirror as he drives merrily by, etc.
Does anyone see a trend here? Is this normal?
Anyway, here's the deal. You need the kind of dough to buy it, then you need the kind of dough to own it/drive it/maintain it, and then you have to have the kind of dough where your lifestyle allows you to almost exclusively take it out on some nice long rural highways and bi-ways where nobody except yourself will be to blame if there is an "accident" of some sort. And of course, let's not forget what a possible speeding ticket might look like ($$$ - see also "insurance" above). You're also gonna need the kind of dough to pay off the valets extremely well if you ever do decide to take to to an event of some sort. Then there's the cost of keeping the garage heated...and so on and so forth.
Point is that, coming up with the serious coin to acquire one of these babies is just the beginning of it. I'd have to think that, when it's all said and done, your looking at a million dollar+ investment over the course of say, 10+ years.
