Anyone that posts that a programmer has improved their Fuel mileage is someone that has listened to Myths and Nonsense and is just repeating that same trash!! I'll bet you think Bigger tires will increase your fuel mileage also!!
Nope, but lower gears will
Just a question here Matt, was that a slightly disparaging remark?
Because lower gears will not neccessarily increase your fuel mileage, I would even stick my neck out and say that for most operators lower gears would actually decrease fuel mileage.

With a gasoline motor lower gears WILL cost gas mileage if tire size remains the same....however the new diesels are so load-dependant upon fueling, and RPM's seem to have very little effect, that the load removed at crusing speed by the lower gears at least in my expierence has helped with mileage (given that the gears are not ridiculous). The 4.30's in the Tow Boss package and the 4.88's with the F450 and 550 seem to do the best....Our friend Vic_Ferrari can throw his opinion in here too, as he seems to feel the same way.
IME, lower gears help in stop/go traffic, or in areas with lots of hills (like where i live) my stang picked up milage around town when i dropped a set of low gears in it. highway milage change was so little, it was offset by the big gain in stop/go.........
my truck milage dropped ALOT when i went to a 35" tire AROUND TOWN, and general errand running.........yet, on the highway, increased enough to NEARLY offset this loss......so, if i make a long highway trip, i get better milage than before i lifted it.
i am fairly certain a change to a 4.30 gear would get me right back to the 17-17.5 i was gettin pre-lift...
maybe this tuner will get me back that 1mpg?????
