Hey guys, if you believe the system is low, how hard would it be to just check the system and add a can of freon. Would that void any warranties? I just hate the thought of taking it to the dealers who would just try to get out of doing any work. Thought??
If I have a problem with anything on mine it is going back to the dealer, as long as it is still under warranty. I want a record of any problems that may occur. I may need to use this info. after the warranty runs out. Good Luck!

Adding a can of refrigerant? Hmmm... I only have 11K miles on my F150 and it listed for $36K, maybe it's me, but but I think it's ridiculous that the ac "blows"...
Yup, was in for servicing last Friday for squeaky/soft brakes, AC not cold enough, and an oil change, brakes didn't need anything, but miraculously they don't sqeak and are woroking fine, and of course could not find anything wrong with the AC, but it was alittle "low" and they did me a "favor" and topped it off...
Any Ford dealer will honor the warranty, I would think that you would get better service from the dealer your purchased the truck from. Stop in and see your salesman and keep him on your side.. they will go to bat for you if you got a good one. My truck has 900 miles on it and I am taking back next week to have the a/c checked. It fluctuates between 40 and 60 degrees. Also has a miss that occurs every 12 seconds and a clunck at takeoff, almost like a rear caliper sticking.. Thank the man above for warranties..
Plz forgive me for adding to this thread....but I couldn't help it after the conversation with a "Svc team member" (sets up work orders and helps determine what needs to be done to your vehicle) at my dealership today. He states...in order to "check" temperature readings and such on these F-Series and Expeditions to determine if any further a/c work is needed... they Run the truck at idle and at 'Max'-a/c (i assumed the lowest fan setting also) then check the temp. and a few other odds and ends under the hood before whipping the manifold out to plug up.
(I believe a similar statement was added somewhere earlier on in this thread also)
He also stated...that "per Ford"....that usually running the Max-a/c keeps the system from working harder in the long run in these hotter climate conditions that we all seem to be having......also says... the Max-a/c re-circulates the cabin air...which has already been cooled once already ....instead of regular a/c which is relying upon the ambient air conditions and whatever the blower fan can produce.
So tomorrow...besides my first oil change....I'll prolly ask him to have his techs hook thier manifold up....if he gets "stubborn"...I'll let it slide... My manifold is sitting at the house. =o) But that doesn't mean i'll ever loose faith in my Ford Dealer's svc. dept. I understand his position on being "stubborn"...I work in a similar field. When my/ our customer calls...for a warranty situation somtimes we also may ward them off briefly before actually formulating a PROPER fix.
You guys got it made! On my 73 f250, to turn on the a/c you simply open the vent windows. Feels like a sauna in my truck here in florida. I think next summer if I don't have a/c I will turn it into a safari vehicle and take out the windshield....
I just bought my truck , and one of the first things I noticed was that the A/C was a little weak.It seemed worse when sitting still, when you are rolling it is much cooler.
I took the advice of some other poster in regards to using the recirculation button once the cab has cooled to that of the outside temp, and boy what a big difference.
I quess it makes a big difference trying to cool outside air at a temp of 115, or recool the inside air that is only about 80-90.
I also noticed that mine blows much cooler with the recirculate button on, but I can still hear the compressor kicking on/off every 10 seconds which is just way too frequently.
I took mine in to the dealer yesterday for the same problem. They told me it was low on freon so they added more and now it's almost too cold. Take yours in, it seems that alot of these f150's left the factory low on colling agent.
I dunno.... had my 04 f150 scab in for servicing last week, and of course the ac was alittle low so they added some... a slight improvement from what it was but it's no where as cold as other vehicles I've been, I'm aggravated to say the least... I'll let yous know how I make out......
One thing I do know for those with auto climate control as in the lariats, in order to get max cool you have to lower the temp down to 60 degrees, and when it gets cool enough, raise as needed. Also on a hot day to get max cooling, to initially get the cab temp down, keep it on 60 and in recirculate mode. Once it gets to a comfortable temp, take it out of recirculate then raise the temp as needed. Works for me!
My 2004 F150 Lariat has the same problem of not cooling well. I will take it back to the dealer soon for followup. Also I have a bad shimmy at 45-55-65mph and the tires/wheels check out ok. Anyone have the same problem??
My 04 Lariat A/C does not cool down the cab as fast or well as others I own and have had. I did not put a thermometer on it but the air feels warmer than most.
