in the midst of my c6 to aod swap, the position of the flexplate to the crankshaft is questionable. these flexplates appear to have the boltholes at equal spacing allowing the plate to be put on in any position. there is one hole, tho, that has a notch cut in it, and the shadow on the back of the plate seems to indicate this bolthole would go in the 11 oclock position if the unthreaded hole in the crank was at 12 oclock. can anyone confirm this?
answered my own question... yes, the notched hole goes at 11 oclock as mentioned above, but the holes are not evenly spaced, they only line up one way. duh.
Putting 96 4.0 in 97 Exp. ohv engine. 96 flexplate has 6 holes for crank 97 has 8 in crank. They look the same except the center. Is this true? Weight, balance same? The 96 flexplate seems to go on in any position on tq. conveter. I was under the impression they would only go on one way as the Chilton manual said paint it to assemble it in same position. But now is there any special position the 6 hole plate should be positioned? As in timing of engine? Also my 97 cam sensor won't seat down all the way. lacks appox. 1/8"'. Block different?
This swap from 97 to 95 up long block has been a nightmare because of changes Ford made!!!!! So far the pan, timing cover, oil pump shaft, manifold have fit from the 97 block. Now the cam sensor won't go all the way into older block. lacks bout 1/8 inch or so! The pump driveshaft was installed just like I took it out of the 97 block. Parts books show all pump shafts to be same. 4.0 ohv engine by the way. The heads are different as in plug threads if not other things I have not noticed! hELP!! fORDS BITE!
