help

I am a new member of this forum and I have a question that I know sounds crazy. I have been working on cars for a number of years and I have never run into this problem. The problem is that I am relatively short and my F150 is not. I have the 300-6 and I decide to tune it up etc. All the components are easily visible so I thought it would be a snap. So I buy all the parts and find that there is no way I can reach the back 3 plugs etc. I know it's crazy but how do you get at that stuff?

Zman,
I couldnt help but smile when I read your post . Im only 5'5 and I know what you mean . I bought one of those mini ladder / step stool rigs at the Wal Market . I put some pipe insulation on the metal frame of the step to protect the paint . For some things , Ive actually sat on the radiator support ( watch out for the hood latch ) or crawled right in the engine bay to reach things . Ive found the best way to get to the No 6 plug on the 300 is from underneath . Dont be afraid to sit , crawl or hang from any part as long as you wont break it or you .... Good Luck ,
Paul

ZMAN, I have a 94 with a 2" body lift and 4" suspension lift. I stand on the tires to work on the engine. Sometimes it is a little uncomfortable but I can reach everything. I also use a step stool to wash it. You'll figure something out. Good luck

My favorite attack on hard to reach plugs is to use a real long extension and a universal plug socket. That way you can stand up normally and use the legnth and swivelness to reach the plug. On the 300, the very back plug has to be removed with just a socket and ratchet, either from the top or bottom, because of the emission devices that are on a bracket right above the plug, but the long extension & swivel will work for the rest of them.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll have to figure something out. Maybe if I hang down from a cherry picker.......

I have an '84 with a 3inch lift and run 33/12.50 and I'm 6'1" tall. I have the same problem with the back plug also. What I do is let the air out of the front tires. This helps alot but don't do this unless you have an air compressor and don't leave them down for a long time.
